Losing Status
Can all you experts out their tell me if by not meeting any of the requalification requirements for Gold Elite, will I be downgraded to Silver or to just Basic Onepass....
Thanks for your input. |
That depends on if you've achieved the requirements for Silver or not...it's 25K miles or 30 segments...if you haven't even gotten to this point...then you will certainly be downgraded to just a regular OnePass member...if you have been elite for some time(years)...I would call them and see if they will COMP you Silver. It's worth a try.

Thanks
I haven't even made the grade for Silver. |
From what I've read on this board, some airlines such as DL, will only downgrade you one level at a time. For example, if you are Gold this year and don't qualify for any elite level for next year, they may only downgrade you one level to Silver. Of course, nothing in writing - probably just an unwritten policy. Good luck ...

I had a similar experience back around '93. I was 2nd tier Elite...back then they called it Silver, since then the 3 tiers were Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The following year I didn't accrue any mileage, and was dropped to Basic OnePass. However, they did offer to restore my 2nd tier status for an additional year for 30,000 miles. I didn't accept the offer because I knew I wasn't going to be flying. And there's no advantage to being Elite unless you fly! That was 8 years ago, and a lot of things have changed at CO. But from what I've been reading here, there's an excellent chance (but no guarantees) that CO will offer you a similar deal to extend your status for money and/or miles. You can't count on an offer because CO doesn't make a decision whether or not to extend an offer until the end of the year. And, from what I understand, that decision is based on how many Elites they already have. But if they do make you that offer, it will probably be during the months of either January or February. ------------------ "An upgrade, an upgrade! My kingdom for an upgrade!" |
Remember your status lasts through the end of Feb. So, if you can meet the Silver requirements during those 2 months, you can have status through all 2001, and all 2002 through Feb. 2003, plus still earn elite mileage bonuses for the flights.
2003 seems pretty far from now, doesn't it?? [This message has been edited by Viajero Joven (edited 12-14-2000).] |
Viajero, everything you have posted above is factually incorrect except for your first sentence. Elite qualification is based on a calendar year. You can confirm this either on your OnePass statement or on the website. As to requalifying for 2001, your status will be valid through 2/28/02, not 2003.

I know a Gold that failed to fly CO at all in 1999 and was downgraded to Silver for 2000. And he wasn't anything special so it would seem to be standard.

Viajero Joven and Sheryl,
You are both somewhat correct and somewhat incorrect. The OnePass Elite Qualification year is calendar. January 1 thru December 31. The OnePass Elite Benefit Year is March 1 thru February 28. Viajero, Silver Elite Status would need to have been met by 12/31/2000. The mileage clock starts ticking on January 1. Sheryl, Once a member has qualified for an elite year, the benefits extend to the end of the subsequent Elite Year. So, Once I qualify in 2001, I am good for the 2002 Elite Year. The 2002 Elite Year ends in February 2003. |

Sure, if the original poster qualifies solely on miles earned in Jan/Feb 2001, he's carried through until 3/1/03, but considering he hasn't even earned Silver during this calendar year, that's unlikely unless his travel patterns change significantly. |

Sheryl, I believe what Viajero Joven was saying was that since the poster has elite status until 2/28/01, that he/she could take advantage of that status and fly 25,000 miles between 1/1/01 and 2/28/01 and thus earn Silver in calendar year 2001, which is good for the remainder of 2001 and then from 1/1/02 until 2/28/03.
