So while those passengers may not be flying CO, they're flying someone into the island somehow. Maybe CO wasn't competitive enough on the pricing (or the timing/frequency of the flights) to be successful there.

Or perhaps most who go to Maui come from cities way West of Houston. There can be a lot of reasons to explain it, but since it's only a temporary cut, it's nothing really to make a big deal of, IMHO. If CO were to pull from OGG completely, then, that would say something, especially with carriers like NW really pushing the Hawai'i market, using (what they call) more profitable 753s.

I avoid Kaanapali/Kapalua. Makena/Wailea is a much easier drive. If there's an accident on Honoapiilani Hwy, U R in deep stuff. The security line on Maui actually moves pretty fast and it's deceptively long because the line does feed into 4 scanners, which (for the amount of traffic) is usually OK. I've been in far worse on a weekday morning at IAH terminal B.
