EUA-Answers
I decided to start this thread as a place for all answers to our questions that we THINK are from reputable sources.
I'll start with the following which is from someone at CO that I believe is in a postion to know, although no guarantees! ___________________________________________ "I do know that the upgrades will be given on an as ticketed basis based on Elite status. The earlier you ticket, the higher you will be on the priority list." [This message has been edited by Vulcan (edited 10-26-2000).] |
Vulcan, a helpful thread.
THIS THREAD SHOULD BE FOR FACTS and Q/As ABOUT THE EUA SYSTEM, NOT COMMENTARY--SO JUST THE FACTS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE SYSTEM. Q: If on a redeye flight will I be upgraded for a connecting flight the next a.m.? Will the upgrade for the connecting flight occur at the same time as my redeye, despite having different dates: A: told yes, connecting flight will upgrade same time as redeye. However, it didn't happen and we told be second agent that upgrades are based on the pure date of flight. Q: If my outbound itinerary has a connecting flight but one of the flights has no F seats released and the other one does, will the system see each flight separately, and upgrade accordingly per flight (not per the coupled itinerary since F would show 0 for this)? A: yes, based on each flight. [This message has been edited by JeffLewis2 (edited 10-28-2000).] |
Q: Can I call in to upgrade instead of allowing the upgrade system to kick in?
A: As of 10/28 you may NOT call in at all for the upgrade. The agent said that the system must be allowed to work on its own. [This message has been edited by JeffLewis2 (edited 10-28-2000).] |
Jeff, I disagree about you call in elimination. I posted two examples on your new thread on this matter. I would not yet classify this as "fact" and put on this thread.
|
I was also told by 3 different agents last night that no more call ins are accepted.

cigarman:
Let's get the fact straight--from CO's and NW's mouth. The statement was correct. This is a Q/A thread, obviously it belongs here. Better to check your claims with the airlines. My post was with respect to the CO elite desk regarding CO upgrades, which would imply that CO is not allowing upgrade call-ins for CO elites. NW elites DO NOT call CO anyway for upgrades, they call NW. So why you think NW upgrading has something to do with what a CO elite agents says, which would only be about CO ELITES, since CO agents, again, don't handle NW upgrades. So the statement is TRUE, and has no relation to NW. Regarding NW elites, however, we'd have to call NW. So, I did. BIG NEWS, NW elite agents just told me that they NO LONGER CALL CO for upgrades, and NW insists--two different agents an hour ago--that CO now automates NW upgrades, too. Generally, there are no more call-inupgrades. |
Since we only have THREE threads that you've posted the no call thing on... I'll post a brief recap of the problems with your theory.
1) Time of purchase upgrades on full "Y" fares for Platinums and gold. These are done by calling in. It is a written benefit. This is an upgrade, and you call in. Thus your theory is wrong. 2) CO CODESHARES on NW metal. For upgrades you must cal CO. They are not automatic. This is an upgrade, and you call in. Thus your theory is wrong. (i'm sounding like Bush here!) 3) The written materials say a Plat can upgrade 3 days ahead of time. If I call in at midnight eastern time and they refuse (until auto upgrades at midnight central). Are they not violating our contract? A contrived example, might be a redeye flight at 12:10. Thus the auto upgrade would be only 70 hours and 50 minutes in advance. Basically is three days, 72 hours or NOT? 4)The elite agents according to (i believe) NON REV don't work weekends. So, unless I'm mistaken an elite agent did not "confirm" this. I believe that these agents are just saying this, to discourage phone calls. I don't believe anyone has called in and been denied an upgrade... Why don't wait and see, before something is a "fact". We have no WRITTEN evidence of this. |
Q: has Jeff initially and purposefully posted it on only two threads, so as to be appropos?
A: yes. (had to address cigarman on a third because he mentioned it there) Q: is the no call-in rule "Jeff's theory." A: no. just passing along info, and stated facts, as given to me by the airlines... Q: has it been reported by another person? A: yes Q: according to this thread has it been stated by at leaset 5 CO agents, and 2 NW agents? A: yes Q: is it an answer to a question about the auto system? A: yes Q: should it be posted here. A: yes Q: could the seven agents be wrong/misinformed? A: of course. Q: if they are, will someone post it here? A: yes. Q: should only written information be posted on this thread? A: give me a break http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Q: can a general rule have exceptions? A: yes. Q: do I know what these are? If any? A: No. Q: did the agent mention NW codeshares? A: No. Q: if there are exceptions, does this clarify the information given, or make it false? A: In cigarman's world: false. Q: should cigarman perhaps call CO and ask so that he can help clarify? Or just throw out speculative doubts at what Jeff posts. A: yes; no. Q: to be helpful, and to pass along information, did Jeff call NW elite, again, to ask about upgrading of CO elites on NW A: yes, and NW elite agent said that CO elites will soon be able to be auto upgraded on NW flights. Does this apply to CO code shares on NW metal. He thinks so. Q: Is this an answer? Could this be incorrect? A: yes |
Could Jeff stop the sarcasim? I'm respond to your posts because you draw lines in the sand. You don't hedge, using words like: many,it's my understanding, most, it appears etc. You keep posting things as fact. This is a problem because they are NOT factual in all cases. Which leads to the obvious questions...if it is not correct here, why should it be correct in another case. You posted that "As of 10/28 you may NOT call in at all for the upgrade". I clearly know this is not correct. One case the full "Y" upgrade for golds and Platinums. They must call in, to get it at the time of purchase. I'm careful not to attack you personally. Only the "FACTS" you keep posting. I want to understand this upgrade issue. If I can find three or four exceptions to the info given to you, I think they are important. I believe they tend to disprove the phone info. Later, you did say generally. I thought we were making progress on having a two way discussion. Now it appears you are attacking the man, not the message. I would like you to adress the four areas I think still make call ins allowable, rather than starting a flame war.
JEFF, These are your own words If anyone, would please read my posts and carefully address (anything) what I see to be the underlying flaws of the system, that would be appreciated. I am not impassioned, really at all about this, I'm just pointing out some of the major flaws of the current system, from a pure analytical standpoint. My insistence (and perhaps emotion) comes from no one else responding to what I'm pointing out, and addressing my concerns, Including you and others. "All I've heard is a few profering of opinions. Opinions don't change my mind; arguments do. I'm still waiting...shouting "tastes great" can't change my mind, but perhaps someone can argue me over to the other side...I really am willing to change my mind." You asked for arguements and facts about why the old system was superior to the proposed new auto system. [This message has been edited by cigarman (edited 10-29-2000).] |
cigarman:
I did clarify above. Yes, I should have left out the sarcasm. My apologies. Not sure I understand your emphasis on "fact." I thought I reported on both threads that the info was given by two CO agents. When a person passes along what was said, attributing it to the source, it is implied that it is not absolute insofar as the source is correct. I thought there is nothing wrong with posting such, as many do post hearings/experiences/information here. Now if I unwittingly did otherwise, then I shouldn't. But this thread, here, is about Q/As and facts, so I posted. JL2 |
Thanks, for the apology.
I do not consider phone agents info "fact". We have too much history of them giving us bad info. I'm waiting for someone to post that they have BEEN REFUSED an upgrade by phone. People have asked...but not been refused. |
Actually I was refused by multiple agents at 12:00 Friday night. They refused to grant me an upgrade for the next morning's flights stating that the automatic system would take care of it. They told me the system hadn't upgraded me yet (at 12:00) but it would "any minute". This didn't thrill me. Being a silver I was hoping to secure my upgrades at midnight as the rules state. But they refused to accomodate me.
As it turns out I was upgraded for all 4 segments by the automatic system. [This message has been edited by winstoda (edited 10-30-2000).] |
Winstoda, This is very interesting. Could you add some more info?
1) What time zone were you in? 2) Was you first flight in the same time zone? If you answer Central, I would expect the answers you got. If you answer EASTERN...I'm going to be very hot with CO !! |
Hi Cigarman,
I'm outside of Philly, and my trip originated in PHL. I called at midnight to have my 6:45 AM departure, PHL-CLE upgraded along with the rest of the trip. When the first agent told me no way I figured I'd call right back and get a more cooperative person to help me. No dice. Three different agents shot me down. I was not happy. As we all know the rules clearly state I have the right to request that upgrade at midnight, day of departure (silver). My travel was on Saturday and the flights weren't full, so everthing worked out ok. But I expect going forward silvers will be out of luck. Thank goodness that trip put me over the top to gold. But even golds will have trouble I'm afraid. I do think this new system will work out fine for you platinums though. [This message has been edited by winstoda (edited 10-30-2000).] |
This is not good. I think a letter to CO is in order...
