DC-10s falling apart as fast as I predicted
Article in today's Newark Star Ledger:
Engine debris puts DC-10s under scrutiny Continental Airlines said yesterday that it was stepping up inspections of its McDonnell Douglas DC- 10s after engine parts broke loose during the takeoff of a Newark- bound flight last week. http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/index....r/10c083d.html And many of you made fun of me when I complained the last time I flew a DC10 (and I've kept my promise for that to be my last DC-10 flight): http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum20/HTML/000551.html I said then that they were dangerous aircraft, and I was correct then and now. |
You didn't say anything about the engines being bad, just the Plane itself. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
So, you didnt predict anything. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
OHHH CCRAAAPPP!!! I JUST BOUGHT A TICKET ON A DC-10!!! Where was this yesterday when I needed it??? I love the fact the pieces are just falling off... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

I know you don't often read "IN THE NEWS!" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Incidentally, FWIW, it's my understanding that the engines are actually "routinely" replaced in such aircraft and as such are not by any means as old as the jets themselves! Thank goodness! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |

Another who also just bought a ticket on a DC-10 for next week. I guess I'll just have to lie back in the super-comfortable electronically adjustable seat and go to to sleep so that I won't worry when the parts fall off.
|
I wonder if I head out to newark, maybe I could collect some of the left over engine parts as a souvenir. I can put next to the pieces of rusty metal from the tacoma narrows bridge(the first one, not the current one).
Anyone know where I can get pieces of the hindenberg wreckage? |
Sorry, no Boomer, but how about a newer, operational, NON-flammable version! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Huh, and I was just griping about having to take that 757 to AMS now instead of the DC-10. Too bad, I like those DC-10 EWR-AMS-EWR flights (70 & 71). Maybe they will be one of the first to get the new 767.
|
I'm hoping they speed up the replacement of the DC10's with 767 also. I'm booked EWR-LGW in mid Oct in BF on a DC10 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
|
Actually I think I would rather be in the DC-10 than the plane taking off right behind it http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
Boomer are you available to check the runway for you collection before my next flight? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Bring a couple rolls of duct tape for the captain, just in case!
|
Drove by EWR on Tpke this PM saw a DC-10 landing on 4R. Watched carefully. Did not observe any parts falling off. Had cellphone on the ready to call CO and let them know, just in case. Everybody should do the same.
Would make everything so much safer. |
Boomer,
The only piece of debris I have collected is a chunk of the Berlin Wall....I might be willing to trade it for....oh...a 737 rudder, an MD-80 jackscrew, a DC-10 engine, a Concorde tire.... The next DC-10 flight I have booked will be taking me to Hawaii! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ Addicted to airline miles? Check out: The Airline Mileage Workshop |
Flew on DC-10 last Saturday. During take off the rear left door came open! Needless to say, we returned back to Houston...
This brings new mean to "Houston, we have a problem"! |
