IAH/EWR Silver EUA??

I am making a trip from IAH to EWR, which is not a route I frequently travel. To make my connection to ORF at EWR I can depart IAH at 7:50A on a 757 or 9:00A on a 737. I would appreciate experience/recommendations regarding which flight offers the best prospects, if any, for a Silver EUA.

Thanks
Robin

You didn't mention which day of the week, but that 757 is a bit larger in F than the 737, so I would think your chances are better.

A bit larger, eh?

Checking 1-17 (random), the 7:50 AM flight is a 752 (24 FC seats), whereas the 9:00 AM flight is a 735 (10 FC seats).

Your choice is obvious, unless you play poker. In that case, you might bluff and take the 735, thinking that saavy FTers would all choose the 752, leaving you the entire FC cabin.

I'm not sure that the poker analogy makes any sense whatsoever, but at least now you have the facts.

I'm looking at Wed or Fri, but based upon Boneheads info, it looks as if the 757 is the obvious choice.

May Be a Moot Point

Going from IAH to EWR as a Silver?

I've probably done that segment 6 times as a gold and have NEVER been upgraded. Granted, several of these flights were on Fridays and/or in a low category fare class.

Regardless, Good Luck ^

Yo Billiken...that's moot point. Finally gotcha.

Hmm. I just did it for the New Year Holiday (out on the 30th back on the 2nd). Picked up the UG about 2 hours out on the way out and battlefield on the way back.

Lucky me!

Try flying out of HOU Hobby....

In 2004 as a Gold Elite, I was never upgraded IAH-EWR. When the HOU-EWR route started in Sept, I was upgraded 100% of the time. Equipment is 737-500 departing at 7:15 each morning except Saturdays. Upgrade chances are a lot better from Hobby to Newark than from Bush.

Good luck!

Ditto for me, even once on an H fare!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I only got one UG ever between IAH-EWR, on an I fare and I was as low as it went.

Try the 777's

I haven't had much difficulty getting upgrades to F on the 777's as a NW silver. 48 J seats help a lot. You also get a much nicer seat and personal video screens. My upgrade for CO 51 EWR-IAH this afternoon (Sunday) has already cleared and the seatmap shows quite a few open J seats.

Go for the 757 given your choice. IAH EWR is notorious on this board as being the toughest upgrade (double hubs, more elites), but was on it this week on a '57, and it was open season for employee pass travel in first, since all elites had cleared. Granted, it was a Wednesday afternoon.

On the EWR-HOU 12/30 and the HOU-EWR 12/31, they ran out of people to upgrade. There were at least 4 empty F seats in each of those flights. I guess business people and elites don't fly HOU.

Wow! Thanks. I didn't know this route existed! I'd much rather fly out of HOU than IAH. Plus it appears to be a little cheaper.
