Strange Counting of Segments

Strange thing, IMO. On my recent flight, CLE-IAH-HNL-GUM-CNS, I got credited with 3 flight segments, which is correct, but strange.
There were 3 flight coupons, and that is what counts: CLE-IAH, IAH-GUM, and GUM-CNS. The strange thing is that not only does IAH-GUM have TWO boarding passes, there is a change of aircraft in HNL, and the flight goes from CO 001 to CS 001!
No complaints, just find this interesting (although it does hurt me with the CO promotion of "fly 4 more segments in this time frame than you did last year, and we will give you a 4K miles bonus").

The "Direct flight with change of Aircraft" is a scam dreamed up by marketing people. It is done only because "direct" flights are listed before "connecting" flights in the computer reservation systems.

I recently boarded a CO 737 at EWR bound for RDU, It had a low flight number (19) so I asked where the flight originated (the number, not the aircraft) and was told "London, Gatwick"

I have been told that at one time airlines would have multiple connecting flights with the same number!, a practice that has been discontinued. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

Unfortunately this practice also results in fewer frequent flyer miles for the passengers on these "direct" flights.

AMEN OLDGOLD! I had the royal screwing on iah-sea-anc... due to broken plane reboarded TWO planes in sea. Yet it's a "direct" flight! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

I have 24624 miles toward Silver elite with CO. Will they hold our for the other 376 miles before giving me the Silver?
Will fly R/T SAN-LAS to quality! I believe the 500 minimum miles will cover the additional miles.

One thing you can do to get around this, whether it is a one flight number. cahnge of planes, or a simple stop.... You can ask the reservation agent to book your flight as a connection rather than as a direct. The price will be the same, and you will get the segents.
