TICKET PRICE INCREASE

Heard on the news this morning - ticket prices are going up $5 to $15 effective immediately, and surprise, surprise, CO is the leader in raising the prices.

I see those evil .......s are at it again. Is this increase a service charge? Maybe it is that much anticipated seat belt use service charge...

Delta has matched the fare increase. Hopefully, TWA and Northwest will hold out and make this increase collapse. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

supposedly it is for higher fuel prices - i guess DFW-LAX R/T Coach of $1815 isn't enough profit?

Give me a break.

JAWS_II Feb 21, 2000 8:21 am

mauifc,

Obviously you have mistaken the AA flights from DFW-LAX for CO, since CO does not offer flights to LAX from DFW. However, I do agree that this "fuel price" thing is getting out of hand. First it was a "segment tax" to offset higher fuel prices and most airlines adopted it. Now, it's a plain old fare increase to offset higher fuel prices.

Speaking of price increases, has anyone noticed that CO, and maybe others, have increased their beer and wine prices to $4.00 from $3.00? I heard this announcement on a flight last week, (normally I do not pay attention to the "in-flight service" announcements), but a 33% increase in price for a beer or small bottle of wine with a metal cap is unheard of.

Perhaps mauifirstclass meant the
DFW-IAH-LAX service? And the price is $31 more this week than it was last week. On the other hand, I never noticed the booze price increase, because I have about a gazillion coupons. Maybe I could give them back some of the coupons in lieu of paying the price increase? I'm sure a little Chateau Newark in the plane's fuel tank would help...

kittyhawk, you are correct. i was referring to DFW-IAH-LAX service.

Isnt the Segment Tax a Tax? In which case
it something that is mandated by the Government.

The fuel surcharge seems reasonable to me, given the price increase in fuel. Oil is 3 times what is was 15 months ago.

Airlines aren't charities, they are profit making(at least in the case of everyone other than TWA) entities.

Kitty Hawk Feb 21, 2000 5:53 pm

I absolutely agree that airlines are profitmaking entities, Boomer, but it still hurts!

BTW, the NY Times is now reporting that every line but CO has slid back from this weekend's rise. Bestfares is reporting that they all have.

good news - i heard this morning that the air fare increase by CO was NOT matched by everyone, and therefore has been dropped by CO.

also, i do realize that the airlines are in business to make a profit. however, i find it hard to believe there is no profit being made off of $1600 round trip fares from IAH - Wwest Coast.
