Wierd CO charge?
I was reviewing my Chase/CO credit card postings & came across several "pending" charges of $1.00 each (some like at 3am in the morning!) described as posted by "Continental Airlines Direct".
Does anyone have an idea what these are? Again these are pending charges going back a week, but not yet listed in my account summary. |
Cannot help except in spelling (weird).

$1 authorizations are commonly used by merchants to confirm the validity of a credit card without actually placing a charge on it. Since these are from a week ago, I'm almost certain that this is what they are. If I'm correct, then no charges will actually ever post to your credit card account, and the $1 that's been taken out of your available credit will be restored based on whatever time limit for such things with your bank expires (typically, 1-4 weeks).
When these authorizations were made, were you by chance making a reservation on co.com? I would imagine that it makes a $1 authorization when you place a reservation on hold, in order to prevent people making phantom reservations all day long. |
Thanks
Steve M : Thanks for the information which seems to make sense. Yes, several hours prior I had logged in to reserve some flights, although I never purchased them.
HobokenFlyer : Thanks for the spelling correction! Maybe I should have used a synonym, like "strange" if I wasn't sure of the spelling, LOL. On the other hand we have in english "weird" and "wield" where the "wei" & the "wie" sound the same. No wonder foreigners have troubles with the english language! |
