Convert from Mileage Plus
 

I have been a United 1K flyer for the past 3 years. I have gotten tired of their poor attitues and service, so I asked Continental if they would honor my 1K status in One Pass. They said ok, and today I took my first Continental flights ever, easy upgrade, nice friendly service, clean planes, and all on time. I was actually quite impressed. I think they won my business for 1999.

No offense but...if all of the ff programs did this, there would be far too many elites. The benifits (upgrades, etc.) would be immpossible to cash in on.

I am glad that you switched and welcome you to an excellent program but I just hope that One Pass does not accept everyone else who wants to swich over to a better program.

Oh yes, my question - do you still have your miles, status, etc. on United? If so - well done!!

Just one question, out of curiousity:

Did they ask you for proof of your status with United, or just do it on your say so?

diver, my undertanding is that all airlines do it. Typically one remains a member of elite on both airlines during that year, but the name of the game is maintaining that elite status subsequently, so hopefully if one switches, that person is trying to get to the highest elite level on the airline to which s/he switched.

If rjwx2man stops flying on United as he has said he intends to do, it would improve the upgrade the situation on United but make it worse on Continental. It is a zero sum game if equal number of people are switching. Now maybe rjwx2man wants to donate his pile of upgrade certificates to me?

Yes, I still have my United benefits for the coming year, I am not sure how many I will use. The second ?, yes Continental did require me to fax my UA mileage statement, and a copy of my current card.

FWIW when I comped over to UA a few years ago they wanted to see a copy (fax was ok) of my OnePass credentials. Earlier this year when I comped to AA they just took my word for it.

CO beats UA in every category except one, which is why I will keep flying UA.
 

CO beats UA in food qaulity, on board video, and cutomer support services.
The one category where UA beats CO ( at least on HKG-SFO) is in seat comfort in E. The seats are much easier on the body in UA's 74's then the seats on the 77's that CO flies.... which Is why I will fly UA again, after only flying CO for the past 3 years.

May I ask why people are digging up posts from the late nineties lately? Not that there's anything wrong with that...
