IAH Terminal E to D walkway now open

Last night I saw the bridge from the middle of Terminal E to somewhere in D is now open. Nobody was using it because it was pretty late.

That's useful but what I'm really waiting for is street access to Terminal E. I'm not sure if that's in the works but these long walks late at night from the far reaches of E through the parking lot to the baggage area of C seem really tedious in a near empty terminal.

Long Walk

Last week I took that bridge from D to E. (I swear my boarding pass said D when I first got it ;) ) It's open but a LONG WALK. Also it is not finished, so there were about 10-15 police / customs agents guarding various door etc.

When it is finished I heard Term E will be CO International only. Does anyone know if they will still use D? Or if domestics will still use E?

This is good news for my feet--- and tight connections. ^

Terminal E will be used for international arrivals and departures, domestic segments of arriving international mainline aircraft, and key domestic routes, like 767 and 777 service to EWR, LAX, MCO, HNL, etc.

Continental will continue to use the first few gates in the D terminal, to prevent anyone outside of Skyteam from moving in there, and the rest of the D terminal will remain common-use. No idea about the fate of that terminal's Presidents Club, last I heard it was going to remain open on reduced hours for a handful of CO mainline and select codeshares departing out of D. Doesn't make much sense to keep it open, but it remains to be seen.

The North Concourse renovations should be completed within a few months, these included lighting improvements, new carpeting, some new concessions (I think the makeshift "sports bar" down by C22 is gone), and updated "Airport of the Future" gate house hardware have been installed. Not sure about the South Concourse, but I'd imagine this would be next on the list for the renovations. It's not going to be a wholesale change, but should make the airport a little more pleasing to the eye. It's time for an upgrade, since most of terminal C is eerily reminiscent of another Skyteam hub...dare I say...Atlanta?!?!

The south concourse of C will be renovated as well. Also, Terminal E won't go to international only operation until the renovations to C are complete and the federal inspections building between D and E is completed. Right now they need the gates in E for domestic flights that are displaced from C because of the renovations. I think every thing is supposed to finally be finished in late 2005.

I used the E to D walkway last Sunday to connect from a CO flight from DFW to the new Pakistan International Airlines service in Terminal D. The walkway was empty, except for a couple of rotund security people in silly hats and highway patrolesque uniforms. The monitor banks were empty and were the old type - not the new upturned flat screen monitors in E.

Is the walkway airside or landside?

the walkway is airside

I don't suppose PDX would fall under this? Lately the majority of flights I've been on to Portland have been out of E and would like the trend to continue/ ^ :)

I did the long walk from E to D not realizing the walkway was open. i did not see any big signs pointing me to it.

my flight did not leave until 804. i entered the PC in D at 615pm, noticing they closed at 7pm. i asked why they closed so early, if flights were still departing and they said that the E club was now a 3 minute walk away due to the new walkway.

I asked if the D club would remian open, with the new walkway linking E to D, and the attendant said she did not know for sure.

she definetely had the "most likely will close, but hopefully not," look on her face.

Found a nice pic of the newly-renovated North Concourse of Terminal C.

Quite an improvement, I must say.
