If the flight attendant went down the aisle offering a turkey sandwich, why couldn't the "vegetarian" simply tell her "no thank you". Why did the vegetarian need to announce that she was a vegetarian? Doesn't sound like a vegetarian option was being offered.

Thanks DJ_Iceman , it's always nice to see what kind of response an email / phone call gets. Luckily I've only had one upleasant experience with a FA on a CO flight, but did not follow up (she was much ruder to other pax, and only snapped at me on my way out the plane, and at that point I was rushing to be one of the first at the immigration line).

Again, to reiterate what others have posted, it's NOT OK to snap at pax because you're having a bad day. I too work in (what is essentially) custome service job, but would never dream of letting myself take it out on one of my "customers." My co-workers .... :D j/k.

Thanks again for taking time to post this.

On a recent AUA-EWR trip in FC, my wife told the FA that she was a vegetarian (after hearing that the choices were pasta with sliced beef and pesto, or a chicken sandwich). The FA offered to take the beef off the pasta, which was fine with my wife (not sure if the beef was cooked separately, but it was definitely not mixed in with the pasta). My wife appreciated the extra effort made to accomodate her, even when no special meal was offered on the flight.

So, maybe the vegetarian was just looking for the same courteous and creative solution that my wife was offered?

Yes, perhaps the FA should have said "oh sure, I can take the turkey off the bread for you...here you go."

In F/C, certainly there is the possibilty of another option...such as..."Could I have the pasta without the beef on it? Instead of...(finger in the air) "I am a VEGETARIAN!!!!! WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT?!

The vegetarian should have flown Northwest. I've had their turkey sandwiches, and I can guarantee that there is no actual meat on them.

Emailing must get a better response than calling. I called 1-800-wedontcare with a customer care concern relating to a COEX gate agent issue at terminal B at IAH. As a platinum, I didn't even get a canned email/letter back. FYI I wasn't asking for any kind of compensation of any kind.

Well, you kind of make it sound like the vegetarian was an a-hole about it, which is not at all the case. She is a polite, soft-spoken woman who thought that maybe there WAS another meal option even though none was offered during the shotgun "Turkey sandwich?" assault. Your suggested response of "No, thank you," is just what she said when the FA snapped back at her.

Well, my first email went out yesterday to correct some missing EQMs, and they replied today by saying they are working on it. I'm just Silver. I thought that was a fast response.

DJ_Iceman,

Curiously...
How much of your Platinum status, may I pry, is achieved by flying paid business and/or first class flights?

I was going to ask the same thing. In my experience, your treatment is directly proportional to the amount of money being spent at CO in your name.

None. I've never flown a paid first or business class flight in my life. I've been top-tier with CO for about ten years now, all on low leisure or government fares.

Ah yes, BUT your Gov't fares are Y, yes?

No, CO actually wins very few contract routes. When I fly them it's on a "competitve match" which they put in Q, V, K, or even lower buckets. I actually have a hard time and usually end up flying at odd times in order to find seats in those low fare classes. A lot of my miles used to come from America West and, more recently, Northwest, so CO isn't even getting a lot of the revenue.

No, the coupon says in about six different places that it's NOT valid for BF! :p But it is good for a year for a confirmed upgrade on any paid ticket for travel pretty much anywhere in North and Central America besides Hawaii. It's not like a paper gold mine or anything, but since I didn't write my letter with the intention of getting anything in return, I still think it was a nice gesture.

BTW, the gift certificate is from a place called 1-800-GIFT CERTIFICATE and is indeed good at a whole bunch of places. Again, a nice gesture on CO's part.
