Smelly passenger on CO flight

Was anyone on CO1155 from EWR-ATL on Wed, 11/3?

My son was on that flight, and told me there was a passenger who smelled SOOOO bad that the flight attendants were moving people's seats to get away from the odor! He said the entire plane stunk for the entire flight!

Can an airline refuse boarding to a passenger on this basis? I recall seeing a similar situation on AIRLINE, but wonder, how often does it happen?

That’d be me. Next time I’ll remember to bathe and wear deodorant.

On Airline, Southwest asked the passenger to clean up in the restroom and gave him fresh clothes to change into. In order to accomodate this, they had to bump him to a later flight.

I can't imagine this is a frequent occurrence, though.

I wonder if his Denied Boarding Compensation included a voucher for airport clothing stores. :D

The worst olfactory experience I ever had on a flight was years ago on AA when a father and son with incredible B.O. sat in the row in front of me on a NYC-ORD flight. I found a blanket that smelled of mothballs and stuck it over my face.

One of my worst experiences was a several hour flight with someone who, umm, must have enjoyed some mexican the night before the flight. It was nasty and everyone in first was giving each other the "I think it was you!" look....

What a super place this forum is. After 10+ years of globetrotting and being a Plat for 6+ years and always moaning to myself about those "revenue management" peeps who inevitably stand between me and my BF upgrades, I've found a place with like minded people. Normal people it seems.

I had the misfortune to be seated in BF on my way to from EWR to AMS next to one of those middle aged ladies who fly once in a lifetime, and dress up to resemble Christmas trees with bangles, baubles and the blue rinsed "hair". The problem wasn't her clothes, designer handbag, and carefully selected (but useless) travel accessories but the several gallons of heavy perfume she was wearing that sent my sinus's into a tailspin. The FA was extremely diplomatic in the way she told her that she smelt, and I got moved.

So its not just bad smells that cause problems.

Have others developed sensitive sinus's from extended travel, or is it just me?

Welcome to FT! It is a great forum and information source, even with the occassional rants that we all seem to do every now and then.

I dont know if it is from flying, but I do have a sensitive sense of smell and it drives me nuts when people bath in their cologne or perfume!

A long long time ago, I was on a EWR-DEN flight on CO (back when CO flew A300s and Stapleton was a CO hub), everyone had boarded but for some reason the doors didn't close. About an hour later, the flight departed and only then did the crew announce that 2 pax has been persuaded to disembark for "sanitary reasons". The quoted was as it was announced, and I think "persuaded to disembark was the term used. A lot of pax ended up misconnecting that night. Instead of arriving RNO at 11pm, I had to fly HP via LAS and arrive 2am or something like that.

That's a great desription... Honestly, I don't know what's worse: BO or excessive cheap perfume or cologne. I'll never understand what goes through their minds as they dump that stuff all over themselves.

I was on a UA flight several years back, and the fellow next to me removed his shoes. I swear to god, it immediately smelled like somebody had puked a piece of parmesan cheese toast. So bad, that I got sick and threw up in the lav. I gave up my seat up front and they let me use a F/A's jump seat in the back of the plane.

oh my god i'm laughing so hard i'm about to puke. i think that exposing the delicate nasal mucosal tissues to the effects of moisture-depleted air at subatmospheric pressures for extended time periods adds up to make anyone extra-sensitive to STANKY PEOPLE!

and all the more offensive if said odors interrupt my business first experience!!!

Gosh, this is funny stuff. Ewww.........smelled like a puked piece of Parmesan cheese toast? That is disgusting.......Do you eat Parmesan cheese toast after that incident? Anyways, my experience was on a YYZ-ORD flight, a girl in her 20s or so, sat in front of us, the smell of cheap, crappy perfume, gave me 1 1/2 hours in hell. I kept sneezing, coughing, and choking in the smell of crappy perfume. I prefer BO anyday over cheap perfume. But it depends, if its incredibly strong, I'll take the perfume, as the smell of heavy BO can make me sick. I just hope I'll never encounter anyone with BO or heavy perfume on a flight ever again.

the truly prepared FF'er will bring along those spongy ear plugs...
