Which side of the plane?

My wife and I are flying BusinessFirst Newark to Dublin and back from London next summer. Going over on a 764 and back on a 777. Usually seek about row 3. She likes a window. Does it matter what side we sit on. Right now we have 3A and the aisle in both directions. Will leave EWR about 8:45 pm. Will leave LGW about 10:30 am.

Seat Guru says rows 2 to 6 are all ok on CO's 764. It says 2,3,4 and 9 are good on the 777. I don't like 1 since there is no underseat storage. Perhaps in BusinessFirst that doesn't matter. Any thoughts about whether row 3 is a good row as Seat Guru indicates.

Now the 777 has the new 78" almost flat seats. Going over the only choices are 752's or 764's. I hope by next summer CO has more flights with the almost flat seats, but I doubt Dublin will be among the first routes to get them.

Be aware, on CO's 777 BF cabin there *is* no underseat storage, the seats go all the way to the floor. If you have a VERY small item they'll let you put it in the cargo net at the base of the seat in front of you - most people put their shoes in there.

I personally would go for rows 1-3, these seem to be the quietest; but there really isn't a BF seat to avoid IMHO, other than 5AB and 5KL as these are right in front of the lavs and can have smell issues.

Interesting. Never knew that there was no underseat storage. Is there a window box or is all storage in the overhead?

Seat Guru warns that row 1 has less legroom and galley noise. So I will stick to row 2 or 3.

I always prefer 2A, a window seat where I can hold my drink with my right hand. On a smaller jets seats 1A&B or 1C&D can disappear on you when they downgrade equipment, where as rows 2 and 3 will always be there. Row 2 also gets quicker meal service.

Some people base their side of the plane preference based on time of day, i.e. the view and/or whether it is the sunny side of the plane.

That is why I ask the question. Flying from west to east (EWR-DUB) what is the sunny side? And from east to west on the return?

Since the trip will be mostly over water, I doubt the view counts for much.

Going over we will have both a sun set soon after take-off and a sun rise not all that long thereafter,. Headed back we will have daylight all the way.

OK,

you really want a serious answer ..... As you say, the sun sets soon after takeoff, so that doesn't matter much. But since you are flying slightly north (mostly east), I'd say seats A and B will give you the shady side of the plane once the sun rises.

Probably won't matter much on the way back, since the sun will probably be fairly high in the sky, but I'd say seats A and B will give you the sunny side of the plane by just a bit.

And you're right, probably not much to look at over the water.
