Mixed booking classes and international upgrades
 

I'm getting ready to book an international trip that involves a domestic connection (SFO-EWR-TLV-EWR-SFO).

If I book the international segments in H class and the domestic segments in a cheaper booking class (like X), will I have to pay the upgrade fee?

Or does the upgrade fee only apply if the international segments are booked in a cheaper class?

Upgrade fees apply to international segments only. They might give you trouble to include the domestic portion with the H class international upgrade but should not charge you for flying X class on the domestic portions.
