Remember Gordon's Quote
I searched, but couldn't find the exact quote he made. It was something along the lines of "if you need to go to San Francisco, and I say it will cost $1000, you pay $1000." Well, it looks like CO may be changing their tune... at least a little.
In this article (no logon required,) the following quote appears: David Hilfman, the vice president for sales at Continental Airlines, acknowledged in a keynote speech that network airlines went overboard on business fares not long ago. "In the heyday of the 90's, you know what? We probably took advantage" of business travelers who had no choice but to pay high walkup fares, Mr. Hilfman said, adding, "The fact of the matter is we understand those days are never coming back" |

... has the original quote Bethune made, but the link referring the original article is dead. Hope this helps. aloha |
I thought of that quote too when I read the article! Ironically enough I did a quick check on the CO website. EWR-SFO is currently pricing out at $1016 for tommorow flights.
Just a few months ago this could be had for $250 when competition was fierce. |
Thanks, slippahs. Here it is...
"If you have to be in San Francisco for a presentation tomorrow, you are going. If I say it's $1,200 or it's $800, you are still going." |
What an arsehole! As a shareholder AND a customer, I cannot describe my gratitude at the fact that he is stepping down!
By the way, it now appears that Gordon is telling me I can fly Newark-Milan this summer in BF for $1,500. Well, it ain't San Fran, but I'm taking him up on it! |
