This is a completely vaild reason for asking for a gate pass. I would have asked for a supervisor. CO has tons of exployees at EWR, you could also go to another area and ask another agent.

I absolutely agree that there are more than a few snarkey Co employees in EWR. I've come across a few myself but reading what the OP posted, something other than an even tone had to prompt that response. I'm sorry, go ahead and flame me but somethings missing. BTW DL isn't any better or worse.

Fill out the complaint form at
http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...r/default.aspx

or mail them at

CUSTOMER CARE
Continental Airlines, Inc.
900 Grand Plaza Drive NHCCR
Houston, TX 77067-4323

If you think you were not treated the way you should have been.

I would guess they were just trying to be cute and you didn't find it at all cute, in the end you got the pass without very much hassle, I would chalk it up to a simple attempt at them to make a joke which you didn't find funny.

End of Story.

A clerk at EWR was Rude? Who cares?
Hope you don't run a business or are in any sort of a customer service position in your life if this is how you view treating customers.

It was an even tone as a matter of fact. She had a bad attitude from the get go.

DL is actually better for me at ewr. The station is smaller in traffic and doesn't have 8 gazillion pax going through every day like CO. LGA may be another story

I think that they are since the station in EWR is less busy but they go everywhere that I want to.

Less busy=less stress. At least that's my opinion after 3 years on delta

Yup - some petty tyrant attitudes exist throughout the customer service industry. I have had my fair share of poor customer service interactions at EWR with CO, but I would say it is more the general coarsening of society trend than being airline or station specific.

EWR-AMS is a legacy from when CO was a member of Skyteam, and the operating carriers were NW and KLM. In addition to the NW/KLM flight Continental used to operate 2x daily EWR-AMS with 777 and 767 metal. Given the reduced competition and the current CO fare structure on that route, it must be a profitable little run for DL.

I thought it was more of a NW thing -- NW/KL had a non-traditional arrangement in that some AMS long-hauls to USA were flown by NW metal, and some by KL metal -- e.g., EWR/SEA/PDX-AMS (and probably a few more) were NW metal despite them not being hubs.

I learned one thing, you can never assess your own tone. You may believe without a shadow of a doubt that you had an even tone. Had no intentions of sounding harsh. But sometimes we come across harsh. I went through a class recently and one of my mid way assessments was that I can sometimes come across as a little overbearing. I thought no way, this is wrong. What they suggested when I asked them about it is to randomly record yourself then listen to it. Or better, have someone randomly record you when you don't know. You will be surprised how you sound sometimes. It was a lesson learned. Now I am NOT saying you were at all overbearing, demanding or anything like that, just saying sometimes people can interpret it that way. Especially if they are in a little bit of a bad mood themselves. Doesn't take much to put some people over the edge.

So life is a lot like writing software or building things. You can't QA (quality assurance) yourself, it just doesn't work.

And you would know this how? This probably says quite a lot more about you than the OP. I think you must be one of the apologists who think a CO agent at EWR could not possibly be lacking in people skills. But really, trying to find excuses for poor behavior helps no one.

BTW, I've encountered amazingly helpful CO staff at EWR. On the other hand, two of the rudest CO agents I've experienced were PC agents checking entry credentials.
