Flight cancelled/rerouted - any charge to make changes?

Hello all, looking for some guidance.

I had round trip tickets booked for a direct flight from CLE-NAS in April 2012. Upon checking my reservation the other day, it seems CO has decided to no longer fly direct CLE-NAS and our flight was now routed through EWR. On our return however, this only leaves an hour and forty minutes between our flight from Long Island landing in Nassau and our flight leaving for EWR. I have read it is recommended to have 3 hours to preclear through customs when flying out of Nassau. Will CO charge me to change to a later flight out of Nassau? From the experience of FT's, is it best to have that 3 hours when leaving Nassau? Our flight from Long Island to Nassau lands at 9:45am (Southern Air Charters).

Thanks in advance for any help. I could not find anything about this from continental.com or google, and would like any advice before contacting CO.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

You should not have too much trouble getting the later flight from CO if you call and ask, reminding them that they made the change and that the suggested option doesn't work well for you. As for whether you need the 3 hours or not, I have no idea.

Thanks for the reply. It was not a problem to change the flight to one that fit out schedule better.

However, I do have a follow-up question. Our original flight was on an Embraer 145, and we were in seats 10BC. Our seat assignment followed us onto 3 of the 4 flights that we were changed to (on 2x 747-500 & 2x 747-800). This however, lands us in the "reserved seating" section. Neither one of us has status as we only fly a few times a year. Will we be fine in these seats, or will we be automatically assigned other seats (possibly not together) at some point?

Also, what are the chances someone will take 10A? Flights aren't more than 1/4 of the way full at this point, but it is still about 4.5 months out. I cannot change seats around in the reserved section.

If those are PMCO planes, you will stay. If they are PMUA planes, you may get moved if there is an equipment change.

Hard to predict concerning seating at this point.

So since PMUA did not fly any 737s, that means that we should be okay? What makes the "reserved seating" seats any better than regular economy, or are they basically the same?
