I recently flew FRA-JNB on LH with a U fare. The mileage posted pretty quickly, but only at 50% instead of the 100% shown on the mileage chart for Lufthansa. I had to call the Elite Desk about another flight so I asked the agent about the mileage discrepancy and after looking it up they agreed with me that it should post at 100%.

I was transferred to the OP Service Center and explained the situation. The agent then tried to tell me that I had received 100% mileage for the flight. I tried to explain again that the flight was 5400 miles and that I had only received 2700 base miles. They insisted that the flight was only 2700 miles and I had received full credit.

I told the agent I was trying to pull up the exact mileage for the flight online at CO.com, but that I knew the flight was longer than the segment from IAH-FRA which is over 5000 miles. The agent tried to tell me that sometimes flights on smaller planes can take longer even though they fly less miles. I had to laugh at that since the flight was on an A380 :)

My Internet connection was acting a bit flaky, so I wasn't having a lot of luck pulling up the flight. The agent said they would check with a manager about the flight length. After coming back on the line I was told that the 2700 base miles + 2700 bonus miles was correct and that was all the miles would be getting. I thanked the agent for their time and said I would contact them again after I confirmed the length of the flight.

I'll probably wait until I get back from my current trip to call again, but other than playing agent roulette, do you have any ideas on the best way to show that the flight actually is 5400 miles if I get a similar response? Should I walk them through a dummy booking for the actual flights I took? I believe that my original CO printed boarding pass showed the mileage, but I upgraded using a UA certificate and my new LH boarding pass doesn't show the mileage (and also shows a C fare not U).

Sounds like they are infested with United Airlines methods of mathematics

Strange, the great circle mapper shows 5380. I guess LH rounds up.

I recently purchased a ticket on CO metal but on united.com.

What's interesting on united.com is that they list actual miles flown and then miles credited.

I noticed that the actual miles flown were slightly greater than the miles credited.

So, just for yuks, I decided to look at a number of sample itineraries. In every case, the trips on CO metal shorted the passenger on miles credited, if only by a few miles.

Pretty tricky...

I had a lengthy fight with a UA rep on counting to 100 (100 hrs before 1K upgrade window).

It's a good thing you didn't then call the CO rep about what's up with the T-100 EUA window...which these days seems to be more like T-100 minutes than hours...:D

Easier to count to 5, which is the amount of days when most of my EUA's clear

I know, but having your upgrade clear a T-5 minutes sounds even worse than T-100 minutes...although it happens all the time! ;)
