Upgrade a Q fare, what fare class will it become?
Hey all,
I may need to travel in early December, so I bought a Q ticket a while ago. I see that there are upgrades available and was thinking of upgrading. Just wondering what class it will become and how that might affect cancel/change in the event I need to.
The CO website doesn't make it very clear.
Thanks,
BoB

it will book into
R or RN. the rules of the ticket are the same as your original Q, but you'll obviously enjoy the benefits of the upgrade at the airport and on the plane.

Your post isn't clear. If you're talking about upgrading with miles (or other instruments like systemwide upgrades or regional upgrades), then you'll be upgraded into R/RN class, but you're still effectively on a Q-fare ticket.
If you upgrade with cash, then the class you upgrade into can vary. If you're Platinum elite, it may up-fare you to an M fare with a confirmed elite upgrade if it's available. If you're Gold or Silver, you might be upgraded to a B fare with confirmed upgrade. If you're non-elite or if the elite upgrades are not available, you'll probably be upgraded into an F or A paid first class fare (although these often have -UP fare basis codes, like HUAUP1 which books in A).
But pretty much in all cases (mileage or cash upgrade even to full F), you're ticket will retain its original penalty rules. There's no loophole to upgrade a ticket into a refundable fare and cancel for a refund.
