Renew PC membership or buy United Club?
Of course my PC membership expires at the end of this month and I fly to Alaska 1st week of November, then 2 trips after that. I don't know what the best thing to do is- renew CO's PC where I pay a bit less as a Plat, or buy United's Club membership. I recall someone telling me that one was better than the other but can't for the life of me recall why. (Either early senility or I'm just tired as the mom of a 2 year old who is away a week a month.)
Aren't all PCs and UA Clubs going to be the same anyway? Isn't it best to renew my PC membership as a Plat and let that become a UA club membership? Is anyone else in this position? As I recently got 2 completely different answers about upgrades on Hawaiian Flights on CO vs. UA (and still don't know which rep was right) I thought I'd let the real travel warriors handle this one. Renew PC or call UA's Club? |
There is no real difference between the two - go by lowest price. (there are currently a number of posts about coupon codes from various lounges for 1st year fee waiver for pres plat card you may also want to consider)
Upgrades vary based on airline, but club is indeed the same. |
Normally renewals are cheaper than buying a brand new membership because of the initiation fee for first time purchasers, so that is something to consider when making your decision.

They're all the United Club now. There is no more President's Club as of 10/1/11.
With the end of the PC, the lifetime memberships went as well. So at this point which to purchase is moot. You're best bet is to try to find an offer for for the Presidential Plus Master Card that gives you a dollar amount off, or a free year. |
