Help Me Understand EUA
I have a flight tomorrow, which as a Plat, I haven't been upgraded yet on.
Seat map show 17/20 open. Fare buckets show F9, R7, RN7, among many others. It has been R7/RN7 since Friday night...That part hasn't changed the 4 times I've looked at it this weekend. I called CO Plat line, and have been told that since I didn't buy a Y/B/M ticket, that I have to wait until I get to the airport.   With R and RN (I don't know the difference) both WIDELY available for the last 2 1/2 days, I simply don't understand why I haven't been upgraded yet, or more specifically, why this stupid EUA thing hasn't run or hasn't run properly. This is my first CO flight...I'm not only unimpressed thus far, but long for the United way of handling upgrades. So sad to see that it seems as this, well, STUPID way of handling upgrades will prevail over UA's vastly superior system. Shouldn't I have cleared by now? If not, then why not? The inventory has been there for a long time, but still stuck in a non-exit row seat. I don't get it. |

You will clear when Revenue Management wants you to clear. Thats the way it is.... |

So are you checked in? Are you upgraded now? What flight is this btw?

Welcome to the new world order ;) I did say that long-term PMUA elites were in for a rude awakening going forward. Multiple upgrade buckets and lists allow for many irregularities in the system.
So true. Worth noting that the main difference is that you don't get to waitlist for the upgrade with the CO system. In turn, that creates a high degree of mystery and unpredictability to the process. Did EUA run or not? Or did it run, and there was no inventory when it ran? When will it run next? Will that inventory still be there when it runs next? That said, with such a mysterious and opaque process, it's actually a good thing that the agents don't manually upgrade people. The main reason for that is that since there is no visibility into why the upgrade did not happen (did it fail, did EUA not run, was inventory not there at the time but it's there now, etc.), the agent has no clue whether you're the next legitimate upgrade or whether there are others impacted as well. Perhaps CO could build yet another workaround on top of their kludge of systems and allow customers and agents to request on-demand EUA. :D |

I'm somewhat comforted in knowing that at least the program did run at some point, even though I haven't been upgraded yet...I understand there are probably other Plats on higher fares, or other elites on YBM fares ahead of me...I'm just used to having upgrades clear in a timely manner, or at least going to a waitlist when they don't. I know CO doesn't do it this way...It's just frustrating to see the inventory there and not have it automatically clear. |
