Reward One - Crashing or to be Enhanced?

Continental's Rewards One program provides points for future trips and for memberships to P-clubs. How will the program be changed by the merger? Will CO customers be able to use accumulated points on United or on other Alliance carriers? Does United have a similar FF award program for businesses? I hope the awards charts done change. I sent a note to CO for answers, but no reply today. Anyone know?

Joshua Aug 8, 2011 11:47 pm

I'm going to assume RewardOne will get merged in with Perks Plus. Hopefully, RewardOne will be the survivor.

WineCountryUA Aug 9, 2011 1:11 am

see UA Business Resources for present UA offerings

Given both UA & CO had business focused offerings, something is likely to be available in 2012.

I wrote to them about 3 months ago to inquire about any announcements. Took them about 6 weeks to reply and that was to say that no there were no news to report with regards to the program. Let us know if and when you hear back from them.

Let's hope RewardOne wins out.

I have started redeeming points just in case. I have asked a few CO people -- the majority have no clue about the program, the others say no word on what is happening.

Email just came in:

As a valuable RewardOne customer, you are among the first to know that we are harmonizing two great airline corporate programs, RewardOne at Continental and PerksPlus® at United, into one: the new United business loyalty program, which we plan to launch during late first quarter 2012.

While we are finalizing the new program, one very important detail remains - your RewardOne points. Rest assured that your RewardOne reward points will be secure and available to you, under the current RewardOne terms and conditions, until we transition to the new program, at which time the RewardOne program will be formally discontinued. Until such time, your RewardOne points will remain available for redemption as usual; you will continue to earn and redeem points on Continental Airlines flights and you can continue to access your account information online at http://rewardone.continental.com. Upon the discontinuation of the current RewardOne program, your existing RewardOne points will be transferred to the new program accordingly, at a conversion rate that may be less than one-to-one.

Enrollment in the new program will begin during the first quarter of 2012. Future communications will announce the enrollment period, outline the new program and include the terms and conditions applicable to the transition of any RewardOne reward points balance you may have, discuss the value proposition, and provide you with detailed conversion and redemption charts.

You are receiving this email because you selected to be notified with special offers and news from Continental Airlines and United Airlines or have an existing business relationship with the airlines. If you wish to no longer receive updates of this kind, please unsubscribe using the link below. Please do not respond directly to this email, as the mailbox is not monitored.

Yep. I just got it. The part about "your existing RewardOne points will be transferred to the new program accordingly, at a conversion rate that may be less than one-to-one" is not terribly promising.

Also, the following is on the RewardOne login page

Important Message from RewardOne® -The RewardOne program is ending. But what’s emerging is even better!

We are harmonizing two great airline corporate programs, RewardOne® at Continental and PerksPlus at United, into one - the new United business loyalty program - with an anticipated launch during the late first quarter of 2012.

We have been working diligently to build for you the world’s leading business loyalty rewards program. Stay tuned for additional updates and complete details about the new program.

Joshua Dec 9, 2011 3:34 pm

The one thing I preferred about PerksPlus was that I could submit activity from before I enroled my business in PerksPlus.

So what exactly does "at a conversion rate that may be less than one-to-one mean?

texd Dec 9, 2011 3:39 pm

So, I'm currently sitting on 58 RewardOne points and will probably try to cash them in before the transition. My company is very small and may not qualify for whatever replaces the current program.

My question is, what should I cash-in for?

I have not requalified at any level for 2012, but don't really think Silver is all that worth it. I am a lifetime P-Club member so P-club passes are useless to me, and I have the CO Pres Plus card personally and the other card for business, so I'm not sure silver gets me much in terms of actual benefits anymore.

Was thinking of cashing in 46 points for a "South America, Europe, India, Israel, Hawaii, CMI, Guam, Asia" BF ticket (ROEET). How hard are those to actually use?

Especially what does it mean when going to a new program whose earnings and rewards have yet to be scaled in the first place?

Probably whatever you can get. The easiest seats are in Y on domestic out of IAH. I have never been able to get an LAX-EWR seat with them.

Very hard. I have never been able to use them for Guam in 10 years. I have also looked at Europe many times and never found anything up front available, although I haven't looked at OSL on a weekday in January. I have figured out how to get in first class domestic, but again, never for LAX-EWR

rishib Dec 9, 2011 11:24 pm

They sent the exact same message to PerksPlus and RewardOne customers, with just the names changed. I coordinate travel for a nonprofit in my spare time, and we have frequent fliers on both airlines, so I signed up the nonprofit for both programs. I'm a bit surprised they didn't ask us to link accounts just yet for that type of scenario.

If I am already silver on CO for next year and i redeem "One Year OnePass® Silver Elite Status" does that make me gold, ie does it deposit 25k eqm in my account?

So how hard is it to cash in the "Roundtrip First Class certificate -- Within US48, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America (not valid for BusinessFirst) -- A/Z -- ROEEN -- 28 points"?

Not terribly hard if your dates are flexible and if you go through IAH, or one of the United hubs in the midwest (ORD or DEN)

Reward One - Another Victim of the UA Merger

See the new program on the UA website It sucks.
New requirements for spend leave out many small businesses. I need help as I trusted CO and have banked over 100 points. The new program, as I see it, throws out passengers like me who don't meet the new minimum spend requirement starting March 30.
Any ideas how to cash in the points I have earned before I am booted from the program?

Can you provide a link to the reward chart? I can't find it.
Thanks

I burned 26 points by cashing in two 1-year United Club memberships thereby extending my expiration date to 2016.

The news came in an email this week. Horrible for small employers. Pasted below:
As communicated in December, the business loyalty programs, RewardOne at Continental and PerksPlus® at United are coming to an end. But what's emerging is even better.

Introducing the 2012 United PerksPlus program:

United is pleased to announce this new, simplified and enhanced complimentary corporate program which has harmonized two great airline programs, RewardOne and PerksPlus, into one.

Discover United PerksPlus

You'll find everything you need to know about the new United PerksPlus in the information below. In addition, you will be receiving further communications in March 2012 that will announce the enrollment period and overall process for enrolling in the new program via the online website.

Please note that your current January 2012 points balance for your existing RewardOne account is currently available via the secure website located at: http://rewardone.continental.com. Thank you again for participating in RewardOne. We hope the enhancements we have made to the new United PerksPlus program will make your business travel even more rewarding.

Discover how it works

The new program is simple. Based on how travelers fly, your company now has more options than ever before to earn United PerksPlus points.

How to earn United PerksPlus points*
Tier Fare type Booking Class Hub Non-Hub
1 Last-minute or premium fares F, J, Y 3 points 6 points
2 Typical business travel fares C, A, B, M, E, U, H 2 points 4 points
3 Highly discounted leisure fares D, Z, P, K, G,
Q, V, W, S, T, L 1 point 2 points
*Points are awarded based on 1 point for each $1 USD in Qualifying Revenue** times the multiplier identified for the associated booking class purchased and hub. (Example: For $500 in Qualifying Revenue booked in C class and flown from a non-Hub market, multiply 500 by 4 from the points earned column to arrive at 2,000 points.)

**Qualifying Revenue is defined as is defined as actual flown revenue, excluding all taxes, fees, surcharges and refunds. Effective March 12, 2012, Qualifying Revenue applies to non-discounted fares booked in F, C, J, D, Z, P, A, Y, B, M, E, U, H, Q, V, S, T, L, K, G class of service only.

You may earn one point for each flown dollar, with a multiplier for Tier and Hub/Non-Hub travel. Points are awarded for Qualifying Revenue flown from our 10 hubs all over the world. It's that easy.

· Your membership automatically renews itself - United PerksPlus is an annual program. Once your company's eligible revenue totals $25,000 USD on United or United Express within the 12-month period immediately after enrollment, we will automatically renew your membership. Upon renewal, outstanding points earned during the prior term will remain valid for an additional twelve months.

· Redeeming Points - Once your company's eligible revenue has totaled $5,000 USD for three months immediately after enrollment, you can begin to redeem points online. Your request will be processed within two business days of your submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the new program launch?

United PerksPlus will officially launch in late first quarter 2012. Following the official launch date, customers will no longer be able to earn points for the existing PerksPlus and RewardOne programs.

How do companies apply for United PerksPlus?

In March 2012, active members of the current RewardOne program, who do not have another existing United Corporate Travel Agreement, will be sent an email invitation to enroll in the new program. Customers will be asked to fill out the online enrollment form and accept the program's Terms and Conditions. The Authorized Representative of Companies that meet the eligibility requirements will receive an email that confirms their Company has been accepted in the program.

What information does a company need to enroll in United PerksPlus?

The company's Authorized Representative must have a valid e-mail address, a list of the Company's employees who travel on business and their MileagePlus number. If any of the Company's employees are not MileagePlus members, there is a section to request enrollment in the MileagePlus program and they will be enrolled automatically.

Do travelers have to be MileagePlus members in order for the Company to participate?

Yes. This is a United PerksPlus requirement. The Enrollment Form will provide an option to enroll travelers in the MileagePlus program automatically.

How much does it cost to participate?

United PerksPlus is a complimentary program - there is no enrollment fee.

What happens to the points the company has on the previous RewardOne program?

We are striving to make the transition for our valued customers on the previous program as simple as possible:

· Existing RewardOne active customers with a points balance in February 2012, who do not have another existing United Corporate Travel Agreement, will be able to convert their existing points at a ratio of 1,000 for every 1 RewardOne point.

Points from the conversion to the new program will be transitioned in April 2012, and customers will be eligible to redeem these points on the new United PerksPlus at that time. Please note that our existing customers with active balances are still required to enroll in the new United PerksPlus program prior to points converting.

What are the qualification criteria for United PerksPlus?

To qualify for enrollment into the United PerksPlus program, your company must have at least five employees and not be subject to a Corporate Travel Agreement with United. Travel agencies, wholesalers, consolidators or other resellers of travel are not permitted in the program.

What happens if the company opts to not enroll in the new United PerksPlus?

For customers who do not convert their points, RewardOne points will remain available for redemption through June 30, 2012 and customers can access their account information online at http://rewardone.continental.com.

I read the last FAQ to imply that a customer can use the existing point system through the end of the second quarter 2012. But what is missing is how long the certificates are good for. What if no first class international seats are available? Does one have to book the flight when they receive the certificate under the present system? Will United metal flights be eligible -- they were not before March 2012 I was told by CO staff?
Finally, for companies that decide to convert into the new program and cannot meet the $5000k quarterly spend requirement, how long before the points become worthless? UA has trashed a good program with the new spend requirement. For those of us who want to get out and use the points we have earned; they are not giving us complete answers. Any ideas?

"Travel must be completed by the expiration date listed on the certificate (1 year, in my case, from the date I redeemed).

AFAIK, RewardOne did not offer First Class certificates, since CO did not offer true international FC. Business Class (ROEET) was the highest level offered at 46 points per certificate.

There is no information as to whether 'United" flights are now elligible. One would assume it, since there is no longer a CO and we are all 'United' :)

I am now sort-:(f regretting pressing the redemption button yesterday. I guess someone had to be the gunea pig... I figured I knew I wanted a BF redemption and didn't like the prospect having to use an 'enhanced' award chart.

In any event, I am sure that the certificates are good on UA flights. There are no more CO flights. I plugged in the numbers and tried to book a ticket and I did see flights come up. The certificates, when issued, are good for one year. They specifically state that travel must be completed within one year.
