Comensation? 6hr delay because of 2 cancellations
Hi all,
yesterday I was coming into EWR in C class with Lufthansa from Dusseldorf at 2.40pm, connecting to DCA on CO2221, scheduled at 5.15pm. The plane came at 6.05pm from Jacksonville and my CO2221 was cancelled the moment the plane arrived at the gate. I was then rebooked on CO2222, scheduled at 7.45pm, which was also cancelled when the inbound arrived at 7.58pm. Finally, I was rebooked again on CO2977 scheduled to depart at 9.47pm, which was also delayed until 11.43pm. I arrived in DCA at 12.40AM the next day which is 6hrs later than supposed to be. Of course the luggage didn't make it and the rental car station was already closed. What's wrong with CO at EWR? Don't they have spare planes at their main hub? Why always waiting on the incoming/scheduled prior flight? At the airport they were not willing to give any compensation as cancellations where supposed to be due to weather (which was fine by the way). What's the procedure to claim compensation for the circumstances but also extra costs I had? Thanks |
the 1st thing is you have to know why were those flights Delayed if due to Weather or ATC then , SOL . It can be bright and sunny @ EWR yet stormy where the plane was inbounding from, so a person cant simply stick their heads out a window and say what garbage the weather is perfect
also the air routes can be congested and ATC needs to slow down the traffic and delay flights , thats when you dont want to be on a Regional as they are #1 for being pushed back or CXed altogether as Intl flights get top choice , followed by Domestic Mainline aircraft Then keep in mind that most likely you werent booked on CO but 1 of its Regional partners = even less compensation if there was gonna be any to begin with |
As someone who flies EWR 2x a week, good luck trying to get CO to compensate for a EWR delay. If there's a cloud anywhere over the US of A within 24 hours, it'll be blamed on weather, even if one of the engines falls off the plane.

Unfortunately, it's not any better going to LGA or JFK. |

Unfortunately there is no delay code for an antiquated ATC system controlling the Northeast....

May 2011 (most recent month for which there are stats): EWR: 61.9% LGA: 67.4% JFK: 73.1% April 2011 EWR: 55.7% LGA: 62.5% JFK: 70.1% March 2011 EWR: 72.0% LGA: 75.7% JFK: 78.9% February 2011 EWR: 69.5% LGA: 68.5% JFK: 73.8% January 2011 EWR: 68.4% LGA: 69.2% JFK: 71.1% |
[QUOTE=channa;16767465]Nor is there a delay code for saturating the airspace with props and minijets beyond what the infrastructure can handle.
I could not agree with you more! |
