Adding Segment onto Award Reservation

Hi All,

Couldn't find the applicable answer doing a search; hoping some people have experience in trying to accomplish cobbling together an award itinerary or point me to a thread that is relevant to my question below.

I currently have on hold for the next 24 hours or so *A award ticket to NRT. However, I am trying to get to Chengdu (CTU), which CO.com can't seem to fully figure out.

Is it possible for me to call CO and have them add on an award segment to the existing reservation I have? There are no more award seats on the flight that I have on hold right now, and I am trying to figure out what happens to the booking; whether it is possible to amend it, or does it have to be completely rebuilt with the revised award inventory.

Thanks in advance.

Call Continental. They will try to construct the new itinerary while holding the first. There should be no fees if you are UA1K.

Should be no problem. I just had CO add a stopover and open jaw on an existing award, as well as another where I had flown the outbound to change the "return" to a different destination so I didn't have to fly on TG. All no problem, no charge, other than additional taxes, as CO PLT. I'll definitely miss that with UA as I only matched to PE.

Thanks for the input.

@rbAA: Curious why you are not 1K? Shouldn't your Plat match you to 1K? I'm presuming you used the status match tool, it should be tier for tier.

Not sure about that? I guess in this respect there may be 2 separate levels of platinum, Under 100K miles may be a 1P and over 100K=1K? just a guess.
