CO/UA ticket Economy plus question

Newbie to this area, but wondering if someone can help:

I'm flying BUF-CLE-LAX-ORD-CDG-AMS-IAH-BUF, combing two trips on CO.

Wondering if you can purchase Economy Plus seats on the UA segments (bolded here) on the CO website when buying your ticket, or if you have to go to UA directly to do so.

Again, sorry if this has already been answered in some form. The search engine was no help.

Thanks

Generally, anytime you want to do something like change seats or check in that applies specifically to the operating carrier, you need to do that on their web site. If you're at the airport and miss a connection, you should also probably go to UA if it was a UA flight or CO if it was a CO flight.

But if you need to make bigger changes to your itinerary in advance, like changing your destination, that might involve issuing a new ticket, then you should go back to the airline who sold it (CO) even if you're flying with someone else.

Is CDG-AMS and AMS-IAH operated by UA, or are they codeshare flights? The only AMS-IAH flight I can find is operated by CO.
