I don't know about forget about Fridays. It is very hit or miss. My last flight was on a Friday in December and I got EWR-LAS EUA at t-2, getting the return flight EUA at t-5. There were a few people from the expedia deal on the flight and at least one of them was a UA 1K that got her EUA a few minutes before boarding.
In 2009 I was 3 for 3 EWR-LAS 1 as silver (sat), 1 as gold (wed) and 1 as a plat (fri or sat, don't remember).
