seat availability co.com

Hi,

I was searching if a simillar thread already exist, unfortunately could not find anything.

I was checking the availability for CO106 the segment EWR-MUC and for example for tommorow I can see a lot of seats available in economy but in flight standby list is says economy is full.
How come that there are still seats but economy is full? is that because some people did not select their seats? can anybody explain it?

I was checking this flight to see the chances for a bump for a future flight...

Mackieman Jan 7, 2011 2:37 pm

Seat maps are notoriously unreliable for determining how full or empty a flight is. It is entirely possible that seats are blocked for one reason or another or that ticketed passengers simply do not have seat assignments. The only way to really know if a flight is oversold is to have access to a crystal ball...

Generally, yes. It isn't all that uncommon actually.

flymexico2010 Jan 7, 2011 2:44 pm

then it means that if it says economy full in flight standby list the flight is actually full in economy and I should disregard the empty seats?

I was checking the availability because many are saying that this is a heavy route ( I was checking for today, tomorrow and sunday and every day says economy is fully booked)....from my experience I took it 3 times and once they were offering 600$ for VDB...

If the standby page says that the flight is full then that means that it is full. The empty seats on the map are not indicative of loads being light.

And just to add a touch, it really isn't uncommon on non-elite heavy flights. You will have a large section of the plane that is un-assignable to the general public until T-24. If you see the non-elite area of the plane full; it is going to be a very full flight.

rkkwan Jan 7, 2011 3:21 pm

Right now, it shows available in both classes.

flymexico2010 Jan 7, 2011 3:28 pm

for today is shows still full.

Today 1/7? The flight that just left gate? 19A and 20L are open, as are many BF seats.

Tomorrow 1/8: both classes available as of this moment.

In this case I think the Flight standby list is not reliable.
if you check in co.com the flightstatus the flight standby list for tommorow and sunday will show economy full.

Mackieman Jan 7, 2011 3:46 pm

That is an interesting bug. PDA shows available, CO.Com shows full for Y on tomorrow's CO106 EWR-MUC. I would've thought the same data fed both sites.

Based on what?

Yup. On Saturday there are 32 unassigned seats right now. On Sunday it is 30. It would not surprise me at all to know that those seats are sold and unassigned.

CO is not selling any coach seats on those flights anymore. That's what the "full" means in this context.

flymexico2010 Jan 7, 2011 4:07 pm

maybe in todays case some pax misconnected therefore when the flight was closed co.com was showing one available seat in economy right? could it be a reason?

Absolutely. Or someone changed their mind and chose not to fly.

flymexico2010 Jan 11, 2011 9:36 am

as far as I can see this route is doing pretty well.
on a tuesday and the flight co106 (EWR-MUC segment) is fully booked as shown in flight standby list...

have you had any bump experience on this flight so far?

flymexico2010 Jan 15, 2011 7:22 pm

I am now watching the availability for 21.01 on EWR-MUC route.
If on the domnestic leg IAH-EWR I was able to select the seats from the elite zone with a silver level on the EWR-MUC segment this zone is shown as ocuppied...however when I try to book a flight on co.com I can see a lot of available seats also in the elite area.

Does that mean that with silver level I can select elite seats only on domestic segment?

dinoscool3 Jan 16, 2011 1:19 am

I thought silvers get elite seating on all flights...maybe I'm wrong...

flymexico2010 Jan 18, 2011 1:59 pm

I found another intersting thing with the availability on CO106 for 21.01.

If I select only the EWR/MUC segment I can see a lot of empty seats also in elite economy area.

If I select the whole IAH/MUC segment I cannot see all that empty seats in economy elite area and overall there are less seats available.

Why does this happen? any ideas?

Just to mess with you since you put everything in bold for no apparent reason. ;)

It is a direct flight with a stop in EWR so the seat assignments will show differently for through customers versus those on only one segment or the other.

flymexico2010 Jan 18, 2011 2:05 pm

Sorry for the bold :) I pushed it accidentally.

For me this situation is strange. Which is then the real availability for EWR/MUC?

sbm12 Jan 18, 2011 2:25 pm

Do you want to know which seats are available to be assigned or how many are for sale. As noted previously, the two necessarily differ in most situations.

If you mean by today there's 76 available seats for sale on EWR-MUC...:D

flymexico2010 Jan 18, 2011 2:35 pm

I wanted to know how many seats are available....as I can see there is a lot of availability....

For sale or to be assigned?

The answer may be quite different.

flymexico2010 Jan 18, 2011 3:30 pm

It would be nice to know how many seats for sale...

flymexico2010 Jan 20, 2011 12:11 pm

Does anybody here know when do elite seats on continental flight open for lufthansa *S elite?
Does that really happen or is reserved only for continental elite?

There are no special seating privileges for *S on CO flights. You can get "elite" seats when OLCI opens but you still have to pay for ELR seats.

flymexico2010 Jan 20, 2011 12:19 pm

What happens if I am also *S on continental, select the free(?! I can select it for free as far as I see it) exit row seat and then change to the M&M card? will the seat stay with that selection?

I checked my reservation on pda continental and I can see my exit row selection.
If I check it on co.com I see my old selection.
Really do not understand why this happens?

sbm12 Jan 20, 2011 12:35 pm

A CO Silver can get ELR for free inside the OCLI window. If you want to credit to LH then check in with the CO # on the res and get the seats you want then change the FF# to the LH one at a kiosk. Should keep the seats and switch the credit no problem.
