99,996 EQM

After tomorrows flight, I have 99,996 Elite Qualifying Miles. I called One Pass, the best I could get was " Gee, I think they will give it to you".

This daily raising of the buy Elite Miles price is truly obscene, at this moment the price is close to 50 cents. I was quoted $1,317 for 2760 miles. It is a business of course, but by definition these are your true "angel customers", this will surely leave a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths.

That's better that I got. They wanted close to $3k for 4000 miles. So I'm just a CO Gold for next year.

As many have posted about before, your best best is to book a fully refundable one way ticket giving you the least amount of miles possible, even if the two cities are far away from you. As soon as the reservation shows up on your OP account you will be able to buy increments of that many miles, and CLICK ELITE MAXIMIZER. The miles should post soon after you buy them. Afterwards, cancel your ticket, and get 100% of your purchase price refunded.

But if you're at 99,996, those 4 SWUs are definitely worth the 100 some dollars you spend on buying miles. But any person with good business sense AND is in the right position should automatically bump you up to the next level. It's not like there are even hundreds of thousands of people worldwide who can fly 100k miles in a calendar year.

100,000 EQMs isn't a "level" - it's a hurdle. Silver, Gold, and Plat are levels. The SWUs may be harder to get if you're just short than getting bumped a level if you're just short.

EWR-PHL is 81 miles.

EWR-ABE is only 67 miles ;)

Even using the maximizer miles?

Check your future reservations and I believe you'll see it does not include the 500-mile minimum.

Therefore, no.

Why is it that everyone who is close to an Elite level or hurdle ( for 100K systemwide upgrades) expects a free bump up ?
If you want to reach the level fly or buy the miles.

Not sure what time zone the OP is in, but tomorrow's flight will count towards 2011 status.

I agree. "Close, but no cigar" ought to apply. I can see some extraordinary cases where interrupted travel plans (weather, plane problems, etc) causing a slight shortage at year's end might earn consideration, but everyone konws the levels and ought to plan for it. CO is giving the opportunity to buy the miles, so noone outside these situations has any excuse. I say "NO" to the bumps.

And off-topic, but a pet peeve - no more Double EQM promotions, either. I can hardly wait for March 1 when people will be in their appropriate (and mainly) flight-earned elite levels. Too many faux Plats this year clogging the upgrade lists.

I did a book-buy eqm-cancel using bwi-cle, previously, and was forced to purchase 500 eqm/rdm. I think that for an elite it applies.

Every case is different - but...

I was 50 miles short on the other half of One Pass (Mileage Plus) and had a flight that hadnt posted (500 miles). I called MP and asked about the flight and mentioned that I was short 50 miles. They looked at the account and told me not to worry, the miles would probably post in a few days but I had already 'been prequalified" to 1K for next year. Lots of variables, CO vs UA, Im a multiyear 1K and MM and I fly a fair amount of higher level coach fares. But I would be stunned if they didnt bump you. If you want no chance though, time for a short flight.

I wouldn't be so sure. In this case it's not a bump in status. It's a case of, "Here are four SWUs for hitting 100k." That is quite different. The point is likely moot, though. After rereading the first p:eek:st I think the OP has a lot more than four miles to go. The first post (made today, Dec. 31) starts, "After tomorrows flight." In about 8.5 hours the EQM counter will reset to zero. Tomorrow's flight will count toward 2011.
