Copa iah - scl

I know - COPA does not fly IAH - PTY...
I'm looking at fares IAH - SCL.
CO.com gives me ~ 2500$ (CO E class, CM T class).
Orbitz gives me ~ 1400$ for the same flights (IAH - PTY and back are CO Metal....) but then I don't know what class it's booked on.
COPAAIR.com does not have IAH as a destination so I can't get a quote there.

I want the 100% elite miles on the PTY - SCL and I rather not book it through Orbitz.

If I call COPA, will they be able to price me with a CO code share?
If I call CO, will they match the price I got at orbitz for the same flights?

Merry Christmas freinds,
Cheers,
Rebech

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9630/5.0.0.591 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Thereshould be a link on the Orbitz page for fare rules. That will help you figure out the fare class it is booked in.

You can always try for the best fare guarantee and you have the 24 hours to deal with that and then refund and save the $1000 by purchasing from Orbitz. PTY-SCL isn't enough miles to pay that much more for the EQMs IMO.

I was on the COPA website at the same time I saw this post, so I looked at their destination list, and they do show Houston as a Continental code share.

When I tried to put in IAH, they show nothing. However, when you start with HOU, you get Houston and can price the Continental code share to PTY. I then tried HOU-SCL and got a message that no flights were available for those destinations. So, the only way to do it on www.copa.com seems to be to price two flights. Then, you would have to reclaim luggage, do customs in PTY, recheck, etc. A big PITA.

I would try calling COPA to see if they can do the whole flight. I did price the separate flights (IAH-PTY, PTY-SCL) for departure on 1/19 and return on 1/26, and the total was about $1800.

Its probably k class. If you look up your itenerary on ITA you should be able to find the fare orbitz is showing and see the booking class.

not true
when on copaair.com, if you have more than 4 hrs to connect in PTY then you have to use the multi city option to price a flight
it will come out a little higher since they throw Panamian taxes in

Thank you. It shows me this:

Fare type Fare basis codes
Adult NR14SAN KR10SAN

So I assume it is N and K class. according to co.com it qualifies for 150% EQM's. Is that really the case?

Your right about the fare classes.

I am not an onepass expert, so I'm not sure about the EQM's. The web site says the 150% is for Copa operated flights, so my guess is you would earn the bonus only for PTY-SCL-PTY.

Not for CM fares on CM metal.

If it is assembling a CO IAH-PTY N fare and a CM PTY-SCL K fare then you would earn 100% EQMs on the CO N and 150% on the CM K. It is 100% RDMs for all of them, plus your elite bonus. Oh, and 2 EQPs for each CM K segment.

COPA millage earning question

I apologize if this was asked here before but I coudn't find reference:

I've booked IAH - PTY - SCL - PTY - IAH with COPA on the phone. It's a codeshare with CO.
I am a Platinum Elite.

On CO.com it shows me that the CM flights don't earn miles (booked on H and K class).

Is this just a system glytch or is it really that I don't EQM for those segments?

Thank you!

Rojo Dec 27, 2010 9:35 am

I don't think you read it correctly: H and K fares = 100% Base Miles, 150% EQM's and 2 EQP's

COPA Mileage Accrual Chart

Not sure we understand each other. I understand the 150% EQM and the 100% Base miles HOWEVER after booking my ticket with COPA and providing my OP number, I can see the reservation on CO.com but do not get, according to that, anything for the PTY - SCL - PTY.
Glitch?

Probably. CO.com does a pretty poor job of actually getting partner credit numbers correct. That said, is it a CM or CO K fare for the PTY-SCL-PTY part. The former will get the 150% but the latter will get the 100% EQMs. Despite what co.com displays on the reservations page it will almost certainly credit correctly based on the details listed on the earnings page.

rebech34 Dec 27, 2010 12:09 pm

Thank you!
One more question:
I booked this flight through CM. I have 4 flight segments 2 CO Metal and 2 CM Metal - ALL are booked on CM flight numbers.

When I checked the reservation on CO.com, I saw that my PTY - IAH flight is on a CO M class. As a plat, I called the Elite line and asked for the M fare upgrade.

I'm holding now over an hour with no definite answer.
Am I entiteled for a EUA on this fare at the time of booking although it has a CM flight number? If not, will I be placed on the list for EUA begining 72 hours?

sbm12 Dec 27, 2010 3:54 pm

Booking code has no bearing on CO upgrades. If it is CO M then platinum elites get the insta-upgrade, assuming the ZE inventory exists. This applies even if it is booked under another carrier's code. Ditto for EUAs, where CO only cares about how it is mapped on the CO systems.

Thanks Seth but I called in twice and twice they told me that since the CO flights are numbered as a CM flight, and although it shows on my reservation as M class, they cannot do the instant upgrade.
I called COPA, they said they can't control CO upgrades...

On the COPA resewrvation it's H class....

Platinum Elite Upgrade Fare

sbm12 Dec 27, 2010 4:41 pm

Does the M fare on that page not have the little yellow U icon next to it?

The flight has plenty of Z inventory which means that ZE is likely open, too. I'd give the call center a couple days to cool off (perhaps a bad pun, sorry) from the snowpocalypse and call in mid-week and explain that you would likel to upgrade your M fare. Don't mention codeshare or anything else and simply ask if the inventory is there.

Unless they've changed the rules in the past couple weeks and not announced to to anyone you should be able to upgrade that into ZE no problem.

I will say that it is a bit strange that a CM N fare maps to CO M but given the fact that they earn 150% EQMs maybe not that crazy.

Thank you!
Got the upgrade (M up to Z) after endless calls.
It wasn't easy and I had to talk to 3 agent and one supervisor but I got one of the four now nailed down.
On my PTY - SCL segment COPA C is full so I believe I will be the first CO Platinum sitting in coach with no upgrade available. I know. it can change.

Thanks again.
