Most Expensive CO Routes??
Besides Micronesia routes... What are CO's most expensive routes?
|
I have no idea, except that I flew EWR-YQB (Newark-Quebec) a couple of times this year for $1,799 round trip. Each flight segment is 441 miles, so this makes it $2.03/mile.
This was on a CoEX E145. Because I am a CO kettle I was not allowed to sit in an exit row without a buy-up... To put it in perspective, at this cost/mile, EWR-HKG would cost about $16,360.00 in economy. Hopefully they would get more than the one cup of soft drink 90% filled with ice and the two tiny bags of pretzels provided on EWR-YQB. |
Full J from IAH - NRT is about $16k.

On their own, for distance traveled, EWR->ABE and ZFV->EWR aren't cheap.

EWR-BOS (221 Miles) typically runs $770 r/t in coach and can be as high as $906 on CO. About $3.50-$4.10 per mile.
Considering that EWR-HNL (9950 miles) can be had for $600-800 on CO, this seems just a tad out of whack. With Southwest and Jet Blue entering the EWR-BOS market prices are expected to drop dramatically. http://www.northjersey.com/news/tran...h_JetBlue.html |

Also, you're not taking into account that the fare is roundtrip, so the cost/mile is more like $1.75-$2.05/mile, about the same as my EWR-YQB... |

Also, that article is pretty awful in terms of accurate reporting. Even the AFWD guy quoted got a few things wrong. WN has announced their plans for those slots and BOS is not on the list; only STL and MDW are right now. |

The new pricing in that market has already been published. Going from $415 one way to $49 one way is going to be a big cut in CO's margins on those flights.

I am shocked it cost that much! Looking at ticket prices for that route for next month it's around $700 roundtrip. How far in advance did you book that?

Good point, although nobody would ever buy these as stand-alone fares on CO.

This would be flights where there is absolutely no competition (especially if LGA/JFK) does not provide competition.
Some that come to mind : EWR-BOS (until recently) EWR-LAS EWR-OMA (especially during Berkshire Hathaway meetings, this is the only non stop to Omaha from NYC) Most of the international fares despite being non stops) are reasonable vis a vie the competition from JFK. |

Which is fly I fly Air Canuck or Porter depending on whether or not I'm going to downtown YYZ. There are certain routes where, either due to pricing, scheduling, or equipment type (or some combination of those) CO is just not even in consideration. |
