Legislation Proposed to Stop TSA Pat-Downs at EWR

A press conference is scheduled for tomorrow where NJ legislators will announce their introduction of legislation to prevent both the full-body imaging scan and the new crotch/breast-grabbing pat-downs from occurring at NJ airports (obviously, this is targeted at EWR, home of CO's hub.)

http://www.examiner.com/essex-county...te-heats-up-nj

I've seen kids groped so much at airports recently that had these "attacks" happened anywhere other than at an airport, the offending person would have been locked up for sexual assault of a minor.

Not sure what, if any, impact NJ legislation can have on federal TSAs but this legal effort will probably bring about more attention to the issue on a national level.

"We have open borders and we have no idea who’s coming in and out of our country. Yet when American citizens try to travel, the TSA is actually groping people’s genitals, buttocks and breasts, including children."

Wonder if CO will say anything about this issue or Monday's press conference.

The impact would likely be the shutdown of airports in NJ. I guess the only ones are EWR and Atlantic City. Trains could be added to move people to PHL or JFK.

The scanners avoid any touching. For those concerned about radiation, they likely should not be flying at all, as the high altitudes of flying expose you to higher levels of radiation than on the ground.

Commercial jets have only been around about 50 years. It is not mandatory that you fly - there are other means of transportation if you choose not to fly.

Yeah, I wouldn't bet on that

Exactly -it's very effective when it comes to time/money to go from New York to Tokyo for business... by boat.

In China, if you set off the metal detector during security screenings, there is a somewhat young, military-looking(think combat boots and black fatigues) female ready to pat you down. I usually keep a bunch of change in my pockets before going through the metal detector... Maybe if the TSA used this approach there would be less push back to their pat down process.

What did I miss?

I applaud the effort, but I don't think it will carry any force at the airport. Either the TSA will ignore it, or they will simple stop screening altogether and shut the passenger side of the airport down.

These monsters are above the law and do not care.

The anti-TSA tide is building. Don't forget National Opt-Out Day on Nov 23.

CO flight staff need to work their internal channels to stop this madness from the inside. The flying public can't do all the work.

There's real not much we can do as crew. The flight attendants and pilots unions are unresponsive to this issue.
