Connection time in LIS
Looking to travel EWR-LIS-FAO (Faro, Portugal). EWR-LIS flight is on CO, scheduled arrivel in LIS 08:10. Transfer to TAM for LIS-FAO leg, with departure time 09:35. Time of year is mid-November, in case that is useful to the equation.
Is 1:25 reasonable for this airport, to clear customs/immigration, and transfer to the TAM flight? I plan to have carry-on luggage only, and I will be flying in BF, so should be one of the first off of the plane. Many thanks. |
Well, if not
enjoy the lounge there for a few hours...
|
I was first off the plane in March and made it to baggage claim in about 10 minutes (8 minutes walking, 2 for immigration). The checked bags took nearly 45 minutes to arrive but you should be safe.
As the above poster mentioned, the lounge is a backup if you miss the connection. |

LIS was our destination, but the distance to customs and the line was pretty long - I am thinking 30 minutes or so. The seemed to pull a few folks with connections though more quickly as I recall. We were on CO 64. Could be a nail biter...

Thanks for the input. As I get older, I have less tolerance for nail-biters when I fly. :)

If you have a meeting you do not want to miss then I would definitely arrive the day before; When I arrived in Lisbon (flying coach on CO) it took me about an hour to clear immigration; there must have been several flights at the same time and tons of people having difficulty filling the forms; I did not have an EU passport; if you have a EU passport or fly BF things may move quicker.
Lisbon is very nice; great seafood and fish; wonderful place to spend a day walking; You could also drive to Faro (good highways) and the views are very nice; November is a great time to visit the south of Portugal. There are some good threads with things to do in Lisbon or about Portugal. I have recommended in the past a hotel in Lisbon called Marques de Pombal; a very nice 4* hotel, great breakfast with really nice coffee included and it is right off the subway line and the bus from the airport. From there you could walk to the waterfront; I would not stay around the airport; Stay in the city and enjoy it. |

We flew coach too, so but were in seats 7 B and C right next to the door, and still had a long walk and wait to customs. There are EU counters that move much more quickly than the non EU line. I did notice a few folks being waived through to a quicker line that we assumed had close connections and had let someone know. If you have time, I agree with this post - Lisbon was a very nice city to visit - make a silk purse out of a sows ear!

Anyway, when coming from GRU and connecting on TAP (although all TP metal) I have had the staff meet me at the jetbrige to scort me through Immigration and security. So, I am sure that if you just let someone know that you have a tight connection, they might let you skip the line. Immigration in Europe is heaven if you have ever been to the US.. |
Best to aim to get to Faro the day before. Sleeping in Lisbon, you'll still have the worry of some kind of foul up making you miss you meeting the next day. Last March, arriving from Newark around 8 AM, it took about 45 minutes
to get through. |
I spent a day in LIS in November 2008 and really enjoyed it. The little woman and I took a wine tour of the area. Very nice! ^

Doing my first connection in Europe. Taking CO 64 from EWR-LIS arriving at 8:20, then connecting to a TAP flight at 2:05 to Malaga, Spain. Will I have to collect and recheck my luggage? Providing the flight is on time, will I be able to leave the airport to run out and get a quick early lunch? I've been to Lisbon and know the city centre is not terrible far. Thanks!
