E+ on United Metal

I have A United Flight Sept 27th .(SEA-IAD-LGA.) Have any Continental elites here had any success asking for E+ at the airport?Any tips? I am a Continental gold elite.

I just won an E+ upgrade from LAX-ORD-MSP
if you have an Iphone go to games.united.com and download the Optathalon app.
Play one of the games and hit instant win, it will ask you if you are travelling on a UA flight that day and your departure airport and it will tell you if you have won an E+ upgrade.
If you have won it will email you an authorization valid for that day, take it to the ticket counter to claim your E+ seat.

Other than that I have only been given 1 E+ upgrade

Good luck

Certainly doesn't hurt to ask. The one United flight I've been on recently I had to ask 2 different agents in order to get it. The first said it wasn't possible that they hadn't started reciprocal upgrading yet. I didn't personally consider E+ an upgrade but since I knew there wasn't a rule on the books to give out E+ I didn't press it. Walked to the other side of the terminal asked another agent and he said it was only for star golds. Once he realized that I was he sent me on my way with a new boarding pass. Moral of the story, don't expect it going in, ask whatever UA agents you encounter along the way if it's possible, and consider it a bonus if you get it.

I'm curious about this as well. I'm a OnePass Gold and going to fly UA from TPE-NRT-SFO. The only thing I found is this on CO's website:
"OnePass Elite members will have access to United's Economy Plus seating when the benefit starts to roll out later in 2010." and "All OnePass Elite members will be permitted to assign seats in United’s Economy Plus section."

Any idea? Thanks!

The official reciprocity isn't there yet. If you ask at the gate you have a decent chance of getting it for free; I'm ~80% this year.

And yet UA elite's continue to get nothing as far as "better" seating on CO metal
I've already started taking a HARD look at AA. I left CO a few years back after I was told by the chief chipmunk that "CO wasn't for everyone". So I took my mostly paid business class international travel and went to United. Just waiting for the "Smith Street Enhancements" to beging to Mileage Plus. :(

 How is this relevant? CO elites don't get any "better' seating on UA either. Anyone can ask at a gate and have a chance at getting an E+ seat (or an exit row, etc. on CO) - there is no official process in place either way yet.

It's relevant because these boards are replete with CO elites trying to figure out ways to get E+ seats, yet there is nothing in return for UA flyers to try to angle for, not that anything in CO Y is worth angling for.

I was unable to get E+ on the exact same itinerary 10 days ago as Platinum, in part because E+ was almost full. I am 0/6 on E+ so far (all international).

Actually there is discussion in the UA forum of folks trying to figure out how to get the ELR seats (or upgrades on CO meta) for free. Same thing.

Don't fly United metal much, but they have always given me E+ when I asked at the gate. One exception, all they had was E+ center seat and I kept my seat in the back. A center seat in E+ is still a center seat.

I have had two round trips in the last few weeks, LAX-ORD and LAX-IAD on UA metal. Agents in all locations have denied my request for Econ+ upgrade, though they were happy to accept a payment for those seats, I was told.

The E+ sections were not full. On two or three flights the flight attendants made strong announcements that after the cabin doors were closed we (non E+ passengers) could change our seats, but we could NOT move into the E+ section. They then go on to describe how to buy those seats before boarding.

I find it incredibly frustrating to be told that *A status carries between carriers UA and CO, yet I am denied an upgrade on UA when there is plenty of inventory on day-of-travel and I am repeatedly given a hard sell on that same seat (check-in sells it, gate agent sells it, onboard FA sells it).

From the CO website:
When will Economy Plus seating on United be available for OnePass Elite members?
OnePass Elite members will have access to United's Economy Plus seating when the benefit starts to roll out later in 2010.

I am not holding my breath, unless by "access" they actually mean "ability to purchase the seat just like everyone else".

I am 7 out of 10 on EWR-ORD. When it is not packed, I ask the GA with a smile "Can I use my exalted *G status to acquire seating in your luxurious E+ area for my 6'5" tired old body on your wonderful airline?"

Usually a new BP is printed out before I finish my schtick.......
