It's too bad you didn't take a chance on standing by for the next EWR-SFO flight since you were already in EWR and only had a few hours wait.

I wouldn't be so sure of this. CO's systems have sent messages to OALs before that have caused odd things to happen.

You know this to be a fact? I have never heard or seen any of this. We might call the other airlines to advise them that we have late arriving customers and ask if they will hold til the last possible moment but I have never seen a computer generated message or been advised that we have the capability to send one.
Anyhow, it all got resolved because I was keeping an eye on things. The funny part was that I had just run into a FT buddy of mine in a RCC, and his words to me, literally a few hours earlier were, "You're on an 005 ticket? Keep an eye on it. Weird sh!t happens with CO and OAL's." Apparently he'd been impacted by this before, as had another friend of mine just two weeks prior, also on an 005, but hers was a revenue ticket. Now the OP's situation was an 016 ticket, so this may not be related. |
The only drops I've seen are over not having ticket numbers added to the PNR by a requested date. It would be similar to the ticket being on hold and the hold expiring.

Same thing happened with my friend's ticket. All of a sudden, her connecting segment dropped from CO's website (party of 3) despite having been booked two weeks prior. It was a connecting OAL flight, and she did not resolve it before travel. The OAL had no record of her reservation, but was able to recreate the segment on the fly after presenting the receipt. So I think something's going on at or around departure time. I just don't know what the circumstance is that triggers it. Otherwise I'd avoid it. Until then, as my buddy said, if it's an 005 ticket, keep an eye on it. ;) |
