Difference in upgrade fare, who can explain it to me?

Wondering if you guys can explain the difference to me. We've got 2 tickets AMS-MCO booked for next september for me and my mom. On mine there is a miles+money upgrade waitlisted for the AMS-MCO flight. There has been some talking about upgrading my reservation to BF because of some healthreasons. So, I decided to have a look at the price to do that.

On my own reservation, if I try to use the "upgrade reservation" button, it'll tell me it's not possible, no availability. However, when doing the same on my moms reservation, it gives her the option of upgrading both flights for a total of €2684,-. Wondering if it was the being on the waitlist that didn't show me any options, I called the Elite Line and asked about the possibility of removing the miles and upgrading with money. Difference would be €2992,- plus a €100,- changing fee for redepositing the miles (funny, at first that fee was $50,-).

When asking about the difference between the €2992 and the €2684 offered to my mom, no explaination could be offered. Is there any reason for this difference or no rhyme or reason what so ever? There is a difference in fare paid when originally booking both tickets, but both are in the same W-fare and the difference (€22,-) doesn't explain the difference between the upgrade fares.

Welcome to Continental where the COmputer is always right.

The web system is probably more thorough at finding the lowest fare. It's possible the agent quoted the upgrade for AMS-MCO, whereas the computer found the cheapest possible combination of upgrades for AMS-EWR + EWR-MCO.

Also the date of ticketing may come into play. The system is supposed to find the lowest possible F/BF fare at time of purchase and offer it to you. It's possible that if you ticketed on different dates, there were different fares filed.

That price seems insane, when AMS-EWR RT in BF can't be that much in fall.

Well, it is. Pricing it out as a new to ticket, whether through co.com or any other website results in these prices. Has been this insane since the merger with UA has been announced. Beforehand; €2500,- round trip BF AMS-MCO if connecting through EWR, or about €2700,- when connecting through IAH. Merger was announced and lo and behold, roundtrip BF has sky rocketed to €3500,- and more. Prices mentioned in my previous post are for connecting through IAH. Even when pricing out a connection through EWR though, it still is in the same range.

They seem to desperately want to push UA's flights, which can be booked for a lot less. Thing is UA has proven not to be able to take care of my special needs where as CO has and keeps doing so. But this pricetag, insane is what I keep calling it too.

Date of ticketing is different for both, on the other hand I did keep an eye out for the BF fares from day one and aside from perhaps a euro or ten give and take, the BF prices were the same throughout. Have been very consistent ever since booking, until the system changed after the merger. Since than; JACKPOT.

Alas, it's the pricing they've put in place since.
