Possible to downgrade?

Traveling with the family and had all of our seats together in Y. Just got an EAU email which I was hoping wouldn't come. Usually, I go online to view the itinerary and there is an option to opt out of EAU but it wasn't there this time.

Can I downgrade the itinerary when we check in?

Just call CO and ask them to DG you. Would recommend it sooner than later so you can get your preferred Y seating with the family.

It's a grand gesture on your part, but are you sure someone else—a spouse perhaps—wouldn't enjoy the chance to ride up front?

As in "Honey, you sit in First and I'll watch the kids". Could be a good investment. ^

Out of curiousity did you split your PNR? Because if you didn't then I didn't think you would be EUA'd because of the non-elite family members (I assume they are non-elite) on the same PNR?

We were all separate. Mine was on the company card. Wife on my card. Used miles on the two brats.

Well, it looks like someone jumped on my seat as soon as it was vacant. I think what I'll do is just go to my original seat and when someone shows up with a confused look on their face, I'll ask them if they would like to sit up front. You think that will cause any problems with the FAs?

She said she would rather us all sit together.

I don't have that problem, unfortunately:( She jumps at the idea of being away from the brats for few hour while being catered while I jump at the idea of being with the kids for few hours. Works for both of us.

It did when I tried it. I was traveling with a companion. I was upgraded, she was still on the list. When I checked at the gate for the possibilities, I was told they weren't sure yet. The seats next to her were already taken. So I said I would wait, and if not I would trade seats with someone sitting next to her. She got arrogant. Told me she wouldn't allow it. The next person on the list deserves the seat not just someone I choose. Silly me, I thought it was my seat and I could do what I wanted with it. I realized holding court at the gate would accomplish nothing, so I told her I would keep my seat in F.

When I got on board, my companion was not upgraded. I told the FA the situation. She asked me to wait until takeoff. Once we were underway, she came to me and said she asked the person next to my companion and they said they would trade (imagine that!). We traded. During the beverage service (in coach) I asked for a mixed drink, and reached for a drink certificate. She said no need for that, you were in F... and gave it to me. I certainly didn't expect that.

i would keep the F seat and try to sell it to the person sitting next to your family, could pick up a few bucks to buy one of those $9 cocktails.
