Plastic in the Ice Cream

Has this happened to anyone else, or do my wife & I just have a string of bad luck?

In all of our CO flights, we've only had 3 dishes of ice cream between us: IAH-ANC (her, 2 years ago), IAH-NRT and EWR-SEA (me, both this year). Two of the 3 dishes had plastic in with the ice cream. Sure, it's not the end of the world, and there are bigger issues, but it is rather disgusting. Anyone else find the special 'treat' in their dishes?

plastic like, a plastic spoon, or saran wrap type plastic?

I ask because, I have seen plastic wrap covering them in the galley, which is certainly understandable, if there is still some on it when served, that is downright sloppy.

Didn't you hear? Chelsea is using ice cream imported from China now!

Which would be just fine, some really great ice cream in China....I know you meant it as some joke....but no basis for it :)

Disgusting seems to be a rather strong term. Annoying would seem to be a better. Disgusting should be reserved for things I'd rather not mention here.

Sorry... yeah, plastic wrap. I've seen them covered that way, too, but still wonder how it gets IN the ice cream. If the FA removes the wrap, it should come off as a sheet, no?

I still stick by my original terminology... savoring a bite of chocolate, ice cream and whipped cream only to have something slimy/gross in your mouth. When you pull it out, it's rather disguesting b/c it's brown from the chocolate...

You wouldn't believe how clingy the industrial strength wrap is. Makes the supermarket stuff look silly.

The ice cream trays are wrapped in multiple layers to cover the ice cream and hold the dry ice on top. We try to get all of it off but it REALLY sticks to glass so sometimes a piece gets away. At least it's food grade so it's not 'dirty'.

Oh, I know how nice that stuff is! My parents used to have a restaurant and before they sold it I stocked up on a few key items, including the industrial strength wrap. It's been 9 years since it was sold, and I still have enough of that and aluminum foil for probably another 19 years. My wife curses about the foil every time she uses it because the box probably weights 12-15 pounds :D

If it's that much of an issue for the in-flight crews to remove, shouldn't other packaging options be evaluated?
