Standby Clarification Please??

Standby Clarification Please??
Yes I used search, yes I read around here and yes I even looked at CO's website...
I have an award ticket EWR to ORD Tuesday night...
Am I correct in presuming that I can request/pay for same day standby??? (Provided there are reward seats available??) The change fee isn't an issue, but if I can get there early, I'd just as soon be in the O'Scare area a couple hours ahead.
If I make it to EWR earlier I wouldn't mind going earlier..this is just a fun trip for me (don't ask...need a little break, love Chicago and I was able to get an award seat at the end of last week....)
(And I am a OnePass nothing...)
