Double Miles to Munich

CO has a new offer with the start of their Munich service from EWR on 3-27 offering double miles. Should I assume those are regular OP miles and not DEQMs?

id_est Feb 25, 2010 7:01 am

Yes, you should assume that. :-)

sbm12 Feb 25, 2010 7:04 am

RDMs only. And no limit against the cheapest fare buckets. There are some fares out there that, with the DRDM bonus, can yield decent returns. Moreso if you're "tricky" in your booking.

http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...omoCode=TB8M69

The route is just over 8100 miles round trip so 16,200+ with the bonus and 24K+ if you're gold or platinum elite.

ETA: I need to book a EWR-CDG for 3/28-4/12. If I book this via MUC, will I get the DRDM? And is there a way to book this to ensure the lowest price?

CaptainMiles Mar 5, 2010 9:54 am

I actually need to travel this route. UA codeshares on this flight, and for my dates the UA flight number comes out cheaper than the CO flight number. I would be posting to my OnePass account. Do I still get 2xRDM with the UA flight number?

It's a UA codeshare on CO metal. This should work out perfectly, I'm actually planning the same thing. However, someone with more experience than I have might want to confirm.

Bonus question: Plat bonus is 100% RDM. This promo's bonus is "2*RDM".
So for a plat, will we get 4*RDM or 3*RDM?

SBM12 seems to suggest 3*RDM, I wonder if it's from previous experience or if the T&C for the promo clarify this.

sbm12 Mar 5, 2010 10:17 am

It is 3x, not 4x. You get 1x for flying, 1x for gold/platinum and 1x for the new route bonus. And codeshare metal shouldn't be a problem. It will amost certainly just post as the CO flight number when it happens.

If I were planning on flying on a UA flight number, I can guarantee you that I'd confirm this first.

And how would you go about confirming? That's what FT does better than any phone rep.

Great question. Unfortunately the flights haven't started yet, so we can't rely of firsthand experience. Since UA codeshares are new as well, I'm not sure that any such bonus-mile flights have been offered that could involve UA codeshares, so we have to rely on CO. Perhaps making five calls over a period of a few days to OnePass might result in a consensus...maybe.

How sad is it that this isn't a joke...

CO metal, UA code flights have been processing as CO flights for EUAs and posting as CO flights for mileage credit. The promo says fly on the CO flight. And you will be. I'd be confident that it will credit correctly based on that; I just don't have a need or a cheap enough fare to go to MUC this spring or I'd test it myself.

For folks considering taking advantage of this bonus, try to stop by the new Biergarten that is being opened in two weeks as part of the new Biz lounge in MUC. It is in the Schengen zone so access might be limited if you're just returning to EWR but as a *G access shouldn't be a problem if you can physically get to the door.

c_d Mar 12, 2010 6:51 am

I have an upcoming trip in which the outbound actually is routed over MUC. Is this only applying to r/t or will my one segment EWR-MUC be honoured as well?

If previous promos are any indication than any segment will count.

Fantastic, thank you.

I love this website. :D

I had no idea of this promotion and I will be traveling EWR-MUC (on my way to Wroclaw, Poland) in May. With my Plat bonus and now this, I'll be getting quite a few miles!

And access to the Biergarten. Get your priorities straight. ;)

Just a quick question to the CO OP experts about that or any other route based promo:

Will "through flights" count for those promos ? For example does a MUC-(EWR)-IAH flight count or not ?

My guess is not, as it should credit only as CO107 MUC-IAH ?

I have called in and had agents split through flights into discrete segments. That should enhance/guarantee your chances of getting the MUC-EWR bonus, and you'll get more miles as well.

I guess I hadn't considered if my flight will be eligible, but not you've got me thinking.

I am flying CO metal EWR-MUC and then LH to Wroclaw, Poland. The flights are linked, booked as one trip on co.com. I had assumed I would get double miles for the CO flight to/from MUC. Am I correct in that assumption?

If its like similar promotions in the past then the answer is yes.

It will probably take a little longer for the route bonus to post.

Did the route bonus ever post?

My route bonus from mid April posted about 2 weeks after flights

The bonus on the outbound posted concurrently with the regular miles/EQMs. The bonus on the return posted about a week after travel was completed.
