772 Overhead Bin dimensions

Hi - just joined a few minutes ago after much fruitless searching for the size of the overhead bins on the 772.
Just received a large Samsonite Spinner 11 Garment Bag - I know it is bigger than 45 inches - it is more like 55, but most of my flights are international BF on 772's and was wondering whether anyone knew if it would fit.
Thanks

If the bag is above the stated rule size, don't bring it. ;)

It'll likely fit, depending on which way the dimensions actually play out, but you run the very real risk of a GA gate-checking it, with no legitimate recourse.

Thank you for the welcome.
I'm not really worried about being stopped. Flew about 90 - 150k a year for the last 5 or 6 years with a bag not much smaller and never had a problem.

If they do stop me, I'll have to manage but it's worth trying. It holds enough for an entire trip and it saves me 45 min to an hour at baggage claim - lots of bags on the 772's and sometimes TSA inspection as well - and I'm often on a tight schedule.
If, however, it is too big for the overhead bin, it's not worth keeping.

I'm flying out on Thursday but don't know whether to try bringing it...
Thanks again - great forum.

Welcome to FT 2much.

You need to beware of the sizing box that is located at certain TSA check points. The "keepers of the line" might force you to return to the check in counter if your bag doesn't fit regardless of the size of the aircraft's overhead bin.

Newark doesn't have them, so far, at least not in terminal C. That's my regular point of departure. I seem to recall something about a sizing box in LAX but it's been awhile since I flew out of there.

SFO has them and the Prime Flight people that man the entry line into the security check point use them alot.

Some flights require that the GAs watch the size of the bags but mostly it becomes an issue when you are one of the last to board your flight and the bins are full.
