PHX-SYD-PHX- any cost effective way to upgrade?
phx-syd-phx prices out at $1500. L,W and S fares. is there anyway to upgrade that flight without purchasing a B fare?
The B fare is nearly 9k, which is actually higher than the UA business fare of 6K. Im not currectly in the position to drop 6K for a last minute leisure trip.
im thinking my answer is no, unless I buy a J tix or a b fare.
ive got a J class reward trip booked but it involves SQ and multiple overnight connections (about 4 days of flying and connecting). Y rewards are WIDE OPEN.

Go on CC and offer 60k CO miles for 2 SWUs. I'm sure you'll get lots of bites immediately.

Is this all flying UA/US? AFAIK, there is no mechanism to upgrade on a *A partner except by buying full fare and using an *A upgrade award.
Did you look at doing a complete award ticket reservation in J instead of buying the ticket?
