Discount code details?

Infrequent visitor to this forum...

Is there a way to find the details associated with 5% off discount code 9702533697?

Good question - it worked on a dummy booking I tried, but I wouldn't suggest using it for real in case there is an issue and your reservation is either canceled or you get a surprise add/collect at the airport

promotional code

Entering that code at Promotional Programs showed nothing, so I've no clues even from all my experience.

Pulled it up in shares...appears to be a Veterans discount code.

That should shame someone out of using it if they don't qualify.

CO used to use a generic code for Veterans Advantage which left a lot of room for abuse. CO changed their system a few months ago to require an individual user code, which is issued to each member by VA.

CO Insider had posted something a while back that VA actually contributed to the discount. WHile I don't know what CO provides to VA, now that the individual number is entered I'd expect that they get a file with the Name, number, and other information to match to their records. I'd expect that VA and CO would follow up on fraudulent use.

My recommendation is not to use it if you're not entitled to it.

Ahh, just great. I actually used that code for my upcoming flight in a few weeks! I found the code on RetailMeNot, and it didn't mention that the 5% discount would be for Veterans. The code worked just fine and I got a nice 5% discount. What should I do now? My ticket has been ticketed already and I don't want any surprises at the airport.

Nothing, other than not using discount codes that aren't for you. ;)

Agree!

Andy1369, I would suggest (if at all possible) to do OLCI and check no luggage. You need to avoid human interaction. It will be very expensive if you are asked to provide a military ID and are unable to do so. I'm sure the Y fare will be much more expensive when it is used to replace your discount economy fare on day of departure.

But of course, the plan of action in the future should be exactly as sbm12 advises.

AND I would REFRAIN from using Coupon Codes THAT AREN'T yours...

PM COInsider. I'm sure he could be of some help! ;)

carsonheim, please read the thread before replying. The question was answered more than 24 hours prior to your post. See post #4.

That's not possible. :( I'm going home for winter break. But, would they likely check for a military ID? I looked at my itinerary and nowhere does it say that my fare is on a special military fare or anything like that. It looks like a normal itinerary. I mean, would the ticket staff even be able to see that I used the discount code? How does the process work, anyway?

And, the code was actually provided to the public on RetailMeNot, so I don't see how this is my fault for using it. If Continental didn't want me to use the discount, then they wouldn't provide the code there in the first place or let someone use it. Make sense?

Maybe if I just explain that it was a honest mistake, they'll let it go? I mean, it's almost Christmas and all. Airline workers are human beings, too.

 OK, I just don't see anything humorous about telling someone to PM Scott when the question has already been answered. Scott, CO Insider, in addition to his other duties is busy answering questions that have not been answered. Funny?
