Generally as far as I know, you must cancel an award, the miles are redeposited (and may take a while to show up), amd you book a new award. You also pay any penalty depending on elite status for the redeposit. The biggest problem in doing this (assuming you have enough miles in your account to book a new award without waiting for miles to be credited) is that you take a chance of losing a part of the award in a class that may or may not show still be obtainable. Most agents will say you have to redeposit and start from scratch, and your hard to find standard award might not go into inventory. However, I have had an agent hold a portion of a reservation in limbo while booking a new reservation.
My biggest problem is that I am holding a F UA ticket to GIG, Holiday time...and I have a strong suspicion, that if I cancel my current reservation, I may never see the F pop back into inventory as a reward seat....then, I'd be really up a creek! Anyway, please keep me informed if you hear anything else..... |

Yes...this is exactly what they told me...But the agent also said that the technology to change a segment within the itern. has been developed and is ready to be deployed anytime now.....but, unfortunately for me, it is not live yet....the ability to change flights within your itern., IMHO, should be there, just as if it were a revenue ticket, and get a refund (or pay more) miles. Any day now, from what she says.

call back a few different times and see if you can get an agent that can hold the seat while they book a new reservation. It can be done although most agents will say no,
Thanks....the main problem is that there are no more F seats in UA's inventory. So if I cancel my current itinerary, there is no guarantee that my cancelled F seat will go back into reward inventory, and there is nothing for her to hold now, as the seat doesn't exist......does that make sense? or am I missing something? Thanks. |
any updates on reward changes?
has anyone heard any updates to the reward change noted above? i have an upcoming trip booked in economy and thinking of switching one of the legs to business. wondering if i'm going to have to redeposit or if they will indeed be able to adjust the award.
