Calculating DEQMs

I was thinking of taking a trip from SFO to CDG. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a ticket or use a reward. Since I would be traveling within the DEQM promotion, I was trying to figure out if the trip would make me a platinum.

I have 51,000 EQMs right now.

I know that Continental's mileage calculator is famously unreliable, so I figured I would ask on FlyerTalk.

Thanks.

Assuming you're buying the ticket after October 27th (so we don't factor in fare class or booking engine).

Assuming you're not traveling in B or Y class or in BusinessFirst.

Flying SFO-IAH-CDG is 6661 EQM one way. 13,322 RT. Doubled is 26,644.
Flying SFO-EWR-CDG is 6214 EQM one way. 12,428 RT. Doubled is 24,856.

Both will get you to platinum.

I calculate:

SFO -EWR 2,565
EWR - CDG 3,649

So each way you would get 6,214, RT is 12,428 so with the DEQM it brings it to 24,856 in Coach --

Thank you for your speedy replies. I still haven't made up my mind. I have no idea if Platinum really does anything for me... I travel mostly on transcons and usually two Europe/Israel trips per year. And I usually use mileage upgrades to secure a seat up front... EUAs aren't really helpful out of San Francisco.

There's quite a bit of availability for reward travel in either cabin. BusinessFirst is available on the transatlantic sectors only; nothing on the transcons. I could waitlist for a mileage upgrade on the domestic sectors, but this has never actually worked in my experience.

Being plat exposes additional F/BF reward inventory. Dunno if it is enough to help convince you to make the run, but that is one plat benefit.
