upgrade on X / AF

I am traveling a brutal itinerary on an X fare. SJC to IAH to CDG to BLQ. Any suggestions on how i might be able to upgrade on this, aside from crying for mercy at the gate?

There is no means to upgrade that fare on AF metal using CO miles. Sorry.
