LAX-Area Dinner on Friday September 18th

I have a week of meetings in Ventura County (Westlake Village, CA) in mid September. My meetings well end on Friday September 18 and my flight back to PHX isn't until 10:45 PM. Therefore, I was thinking of expensing my dinner at somewhere nearby LAX sometime that night around 7. Anyone interested?

FlyinHawaiian Jul 20, 2009 5:28 pm

My girlfriend is arriving on a 10 p.m. flight into LAX that evening, so I'll need to be out there anyhow. I'd be happy to drop you (and up to three others) off in time for your flight.

Let's meet at Truxton's American Bistro, the site of many FT dinners, including the recent one with UA's Captain Denny Flanagan at 7:30 p.m.

I've made a dinner reservation under my real name; please PM me if you need it or my cell phone number.

I only suggested Encounters because I'll be dropped off at the airport. If you're willing to drive we can go anywhere you want...the company is paying for it :D. It'd be an honor to meet a Flyertalk legend such as yourself.

FlyinHawaiian Jul 22, 2009 10:59 am

LOL, I think you have me mistaken for someone else. :)

Let's see if any of the other LAX locals or travellers are interested in having dinner that night and we can pick a place that works for all.

wingless Aug 28, 2009 10:25 am

I can probably make it. I haven't been to Encounter in a long time but it is expensive and if you want more people to come I would suggest somewhere else depending on how many are interested.

FlyinHawaiian Aug 28, 2009 10:39 am

I never tire of Truxton's; I really like the food there. There's so many other good places near LAX as well, so I agree that we can save Encounters for another time. :)

CMK10 Aug 28, 2009 2:16 pm

I'm fine with anything, I only suggested Encounters because I'd be at the airport without a ride. I think after I get dropped off there i'll check my bag and if someone who's interested could give me a ride we can go anywhere they choose.

FlyinHawaiian Sep 8, 2009 3:34 pm

Friendly bump. I'm going to suggest Truxton's at 7:30 p.m. Does that work for everyone? I'll use Post #2 for logistics and RSVP.

Regrets as I'll be enroute to olafman's gayla in MUC

I'm actually on the redeye to IAD on the 18th, so there is a chance even I can make it. That is, if you don't mind a young'n ;)

Actually, after looking at the menu, I feel obligated to go :D

ndot Sep 10, 2009 1:41 pm

As luck would have it I happen to be in LAX that weekend redeeming some SPG free weekend nights. I'd love the chance to meet some more Flyertalkers in person, so count me in.

Hell I'm just shy of 24...at least this way I'll have someone my age to talk to! :D

Because I come back into Burbank, I'm gonna try and catch the 4pm surfliner from BUR to LAX (via Union Station), so that will put me into LAX sometime around 530.

From there, I can either hitch a ride with CMK10 and FH or cab it over. It doesn't seem very far away.

FlyinHawaiian Sep 11, 2009 12:10 am

I'd suggest catching the FlyAway bus from Union Station to LAX.

So do we have a set time, date and place?

Sorry, my post seems confusing when I re-read it.

The FlyAway bus is what I meant when I said "via Union Station".

Truxtons is within a few miles of LAX though right, in case I take a cab?

FlyinHawaiian Sep 11, 2009 10:38 am

You can either take the Parking Spot Sepulveda shuttle to their lot and make the 5-10 minute walk to Truxton's from there or see if one of the locals can pick you up. I think I'll be picking up CMK10 at the United Premier check-in at Terminal 6 around 7-ish.

I_Can_Fly_US_Airways Sep 11, 2009 10:44 am

Maybe...

Please put me down as a "possible". I'll be in LA that day & am not sure if I can stick around for dinner yet...

As an FYI, Encounter is excellent (ate there last month). The Proud Bird is also a great LAX spot as well.

Done!

We've also had dinners at The Proud Bird; agree that it's a nice place. Encounters is fine (a tad pricey for my taste), but does present us locals with some parking challenges. :)

Hope you can make it!

Awesome; RSVP list updated!

I made reservations under my name (for those who know me) for 8 people at 7:30 p.m. If there are any others wishing to come, you are most welcome, but please let me know so I can adjust the reservation accordingly.

Thank you everyone for coming last night and especially FlyinHawaiian for his planning skills. I had a very enjoyable time with all of you.

As a last note, I'm writing this from SFO because I picked up a VDB last night.
- $300 in Travel Credits
- $15 Meal Voucher
- LAX Hilton
- LAX-SFO-PHX routing in F today.

With the double EQS promotion I'm thrilled.

We had a great time. Sorry we had to leave so early but we were exhausted from moving all day. Here is the photo http://gallery.flyertalk.com/gallery...i_s_random_270

What an amazingly attractive bunch of people! :p

Thanks to all who were able to come out and share in a little discussion of miles, points, and etc. over dinner.
