Here's my long shortlist of good eats in ANC and environs (in no particular order):
  • Snow Goose Restaurant and Brewery (famous for their outdoor deck overlooking the water)
  • Ginger (top-notch Asian cuisine)
  • Humpy's (well-known bar and famous for their halibut chips)

My three favorite

This is seriously temping. Let me research flights etc - if I can be there, I will be. Would be good to meet up again and see more of your great state (and Bob W's wines!). I'll bring the whisky.

Hmm... would be nice to expand beyond the offerings of onboard AS, AS BR, CO PC and NW WC :D

The SPG Category 3 Sheraton Anchorage has award rooms available for that weekend -- a great time to redeem points since room rates in the summer are pretty steep.

In addition to many of the restaurants mentioned by jackal, I also liked tapas and wine flights at Crush Wine Bistro & Cellar.

Hmm...haven't been there. I will have to check it out! Thanks!

It's in the 5th Avenue mall at the 6th Avenue exit. If you want some company, just let me know when. Nice, upscale place, good wines, great appetizers and the prices are "almost" affordable.

Likewise... I've talked with some of the employees... so let me know when we're going :p

Quality control

This must be added to the list of official DO stops. It will show that there is someplace besides the Wall O Wine worth visiting in June.

Still, a quality control inspection is in order.;) :D

Count me in! "The name's Moose. Bull Moose."

And thanks jackal for organizing another DO. ^

I'm very interested. Been wanting to get to AK for some time and was just thinking tonight about trying to get up there sometime this summer.

I won't be able to confirm until much later, so I suppose I'd be a "Cow" at this point. :D

I'll be in town AFAIK, so I'm in.

(Put me as a cow though, because I have no idea what my schedule will be like, and my transportation abilities are somewhat limited).

Maybe there will be a red tail left to fly you up ^

(Although I saw the DL livery on the NW 757 in ANC already... :()

C'mon down... assuming you'll be in FAI... Air, Train, dogsled or road! :D

One more person to commit... and we got ourselves an official 'DO' worthy of the grand list! ^

You miscounted...we have five already! (Check post #3.)

PM has already been sent to CommunityBuzz mod to put us on the list! :)

All right, folks...what sort of activities are you interested in? A few people have marked in the Doodle that they're interested in "an excursion north of Anchorage." Are we thinking just a little drive for scenery or do we want to make a full two-day trip out to Valdez or even Kennecott or something like that?

I'm thinking some people may have glanced upon this thread but not found the activities compelling enough to actually book a ticket. If we plan something exciting like chartering a plane for 10 people to fly into the Wrangells and do a weekend at a backcountry lodge or something, we may get more people interested in doing this as a once-in-a-lifetime trip...of course, us locals will be bankrupted in the process!:D

But let's hear some ideas! And those of you who are still only interested cows :p, Doodle your ideas, too! We want to know what sort of things would push you over the top into actually booking! (And Doodle your available dates, too, so we know when to concentrate the majority of events. Ignore my availability markings for now--I should be able to do a schedule swap and make just about anything work.)

Shoot. I went back to update my Doodle choices, but it wouldn't let me saying someone had already chosen that username. Duh! It was me! :)

Anyway, I'd be happy doing just about anything. I'm interested in plenty of midnight sun and sitting outdoors to enjoy the wonderful scenery while consuming a nice beverage. The rest would just be icing, pun intended. ;)

There's an "edit an entry" link at the bottom of each Doodle. It takes you to an edit screen where you can click on a little notebook next to your username and edit your choices. It actually lets you edit anyone's responses (I suppose it operates somewhat on the wiki collaborative model), but be nice and just edit yours (unless you can honestly claim to speak for someone else!). ;)
