Price Check

Perhaps this might help.

Set Menu for 10 pax @ Esplanade Location

Includes (1-Combination Platter, 2-Sharkfins Soup with Conpoy & Crabmeat, 3-Steamed Sea-Bass Hong Kong Style, 4-Deep Fried Butter Chicken, 5-Crispy Cereal Prawns, 6-Mushroom with Vegetables, 7-White Pepper Crabs or Chilli Crabs, 8-Yang Chow Fried Rice, 9-Dessert of the days)

S$439 + 10% svc charge + 7% GST
Hence, >$50/pax is very likely with drinks and what not.

The $25-35/pax @ Geyland location quoted in hungrygowhere is from one review and is likely to be an underestimation. I could be wrong. Will see if I can a similar price check for the location @ Geyland. (Can't guarantee will get one though)

It's closer to our hotel, and we're lazy. (No heckles from those who know us, please.)

Although I will not be Singapore at the time of your dinner, I've decided to chime in to suggest that this is perhaps a mistake. I'll be in SIN the evening of 4/26 and 4/27 depending upon the performance of the U.S. Passport office. Pricing at Esplanade is higher than the Geylang location.

This is my opinion and mine only. May I suggest you be a little less lazy and switch to the Jumbo location at Clarke Quai. http://www.jumboseafood.com.sg/special_branch05.html
or as an alternative, the location at Boat Quai, a short distance away.

For $S20 you can buy a Jumbo Card good for an entire year that will get you a 10% discount on all food and beverage. Just buy it the same day before you have dinner at any location. The receipt, based upon this year's SinDo experience serves the same purpose as the actual card. Pricing should be comparable to No Sign Board and IMHO the food is much better.

Where ever you go, please raise a Tiger in memory of the crab under the chili or black pepper sauce.

Similar Set Menu for 10 pax @ Geyland Location

S$388 + the usual.

So, u are paying a bit more to dine in the presence of possibly the most expensive and iconic lightning rod, aka Merlion.

TowTruckDriver Apr 14, 2009 2:09 am

If cost is a concern, Palm Beach is running a promo with a local bank's credit card till 31 May - spend at least S$150 and get S$60 off the total bill. That adds up to be ~40% discount. And the restaurant is right across the street from NSB, I believe.

One problem though, NSB is known for White Pepper Crab and PB is known for its Black Pepper Crab. Not sure if OP was referring to the black or the white version.

By the way, MOST restaurants will partner with local bank credit cards to offer 10% discount on ala carte food items. You just have to bring the right person with the right card for each restaurant. And you MIGHT be able to save the $20 and buy the group some Tiger. ;)

a suggestion

Hey there crab lovers!
Although the no sign crab is great it is kinda too expensive for my taste...
So here is a suggestion to those who would go for a whole lot cheaper but still amazing crab!
Chai Chee Seafood
359 Changi Road
U can call 68412002 for reservations.

This has some really good food and for S$30 you will have too much food but a very big smile.

Just one catch... Its a halal place so NO alcohol!

I do know another place that sells good pepper crabs at a cheaper price.. but it isn't air-conditioned and it's not that convenient to reach(bus or cab).

Pasir Panjang Food Market.

Let me know if you guys are keen.

I am fine with No Signboard too. Thanks for the invite.

Bump for more

opushomes Apr 30, 2009 3:59 pm

perhaps a close price comparison

Sunday night, I ate at Jumbo (pricing comparable to NSB-Esplanade) on Clarke Quai

1 Chili Crab
1 snall order Kailan with garlic
4 steamed buns
2 Tigers-Mugs
peanut cover charge $S1.20
sweet sauce cover charge $S1.20
Tax
Service
Total $72.00 Sing. $US49

Despite some extremely helpful suggestions, I confess to being more confused rather than less. Thyetus, your suggestion sounds wonderful but perhaps too logistically difficult. The same seems to me to be true for citrus' recommendation.

That leaves us with the one originally planned, or these two:

Where do we buy the Jumbo card? Can we buy it immediately before dinner?

I like both white pepper and black pepper crab so either variant is fine. I've given up curry crab in favor of the pepper varieties. What is the address for Palm Beach? Do you have the bank credit card needed for the discount? Can we rely on you coming if we chose this restaurant? Is it roughly the same distance as Clark Quai?

karenkay May 3, 2009 7:00 pm

ack, i'll miss you guys by three nights!!!!

have a lovely time and save some pepper crab for me, please. ;) if anyone's going to be in town longer, let me know and perhaps we can have another dinner. (we're leaving sin early on the 26th, so i'm going to miss opushomes yet again.)

In terms of logistical difficulty, I concur. I visited there on Monday. It was a $S12.50 taxi ride one way from the Holiday Inn Atrium with no surcharges. On return it was bus to MRT to taxi. Pasir Panjang is presently a construction zone caused by the new MRT extension being built zero meters from the edge of the hawker centre. This also appears to have shut down a number of stalls. Also the girls have stated that they are lazy.

In January, I bought the card, need Singapore address such as "SanDiego1K c/o Conrad Hotel, 2 Temasek Rd, attn: concierge" since they do not mail to foreign addresses. I bought it 4 hours before our event (available at any Jumbo outlet) and the receipt served as the same purpose as a real card. I am sure that they can handle it at the door. At #5, ask for Eric Chong-headwaiter. Also remember to make reservations at either NSB or Jumbo.

KK: My dear, I am unfortunately going to be in Portland at the time of this event. I'll have some Dungeness for you if it is less than $US3.99/lb.:);)

Yes and yes.

While going through the promo deal for Palm Beach ($60 off $150 min*), found another for Tung Lok ($50 off $100 min**). So if you guys are game for a black-white-red run, that is black pepper, white pepper and red chilli crabs in one nite, I would be more than happy to use up all the coupons in a nite. If not, just NSB as decided would be nice too.

Edit: *the min amount required is for a la carte food items only, excluding drinks.
** the min amount required is for a la carte F&B and set menu.

fone May 4, 2009 12:36 am

I am in SG, might be able to attend, depending on family commitments.

jan_az May 5, 2009 11:35 pm

Do we have a decision

abraxis May 6, 2009 2:15 pm

ARGH! Will have to cancel. Stuck in SFO for work related stuff. Can't get out of it...

Was looking forward to chili crab and everything else on the menu...
