Drool... We had a lovely picnic that we bought at the Le Bon Marche food hall, but that sounds really good (my screwcap pink Cinsault was tasty, but probably not quite up to the level of your Gewurz).

Will post more later, but had a wonderful trip--thank you to all the attendees (especially the Hilton 4 ;)) and of course, a special thank you to Randy for making it all possible.

I'm back to my hotel room eating some great memorable macarons bought at Ladurée...

The trip was excellent and I'll post more later with some interesting photos. Thanks to all of us OpenSkies 20, and especially the Hilton 4 and of course Randy for making this happen. ;)

Fleeting moments which included:

* A progression of architectural visits, expositions, museums and concerts, punctuated by a progression of a half-dozen cafes; beginning with the Belle Epoque-era Café de la Paix, designed by the same Charles Garnier who designed the adjacent Opera, with concomitant flights of wine (beginning with a Rose from Anjou; ending with a Gewürztraminer Vendage Tardif from Alsace), pates and cheeses.
* Seeing the exhibit organized by the principality of Monaco within the 1st Arrondisement’s Hotel de Ville of Grace Kelly … a true and beautiful, fashionable, articulate and beloved princess.
* As it was the Fête de la Musique de Paris, there was music all around us. We saw African dancers, Norwegian marching bands, Scottish fife and drummers, Franco Hip-hop, and what briefly was an outstanding organ recital at the High Gothic Église de Saint-Eustache near Les Halles where the pipe organ console broke, requiring a technical overhaul of the six-tier console with the mechanics literally pulling out all the stops. Ending with the strident warbles of the thrash metal band Villina C
* The photography within Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the post modern art of Centre Pompidou, and the sequences of the Cathedrale de Rouen and “Impression: Sunrise” within the underappreciated Musée Marmottan-Claude Monet, far removed from the madding and obnoxious crowds at the other, more famous Impressionist museum.
* Shopping at the myriad antiquities dealers at the Louvre des Antiquaires, finding a Chinese Neolithic vessel of the Banshan phase circa 2500 BC that I might add to the collection.
* Exploring the Mariology of the statuary and the gargoyles around Notre Dame de Paris, and the monumentality of the Banque de France.
Learning the bloody history of St. Germain l’Auxerrois, the oldest church in Paris, which heralded the St. Bartholomew Massacre of the Huguenots in 1572.
* Window shopping at the various boutiques in and around Fauberg St. Honore.
* Wandering past the Gallo-Roman baths at the Thermes de Cluny, atop which the medieval frescoes of the Musée de Moyen Age- Hôtel de Cluny.
* Avoiding the seemingly ubiquitous con artists’ latest trickery, finding “gold” rings on the street, right in front of you. Not avoiding the used booksellers lining the banks of the Seine.
* Enjoying the pulsing music in the 30-meter-high atrium of Pershing Hall, the beautiful mansion that served as General John Pershing’s Parisian residence during World War 1, turned into an ultra-chic boutique hotel designed by Andrée Putman.
* Returning to the InterContinental Hotel to prepare Monday’s lecture at the Columbia University Business School.

The many FTers whose own explorations of Paris variously intermingled with mine today (thank God for cellphones, SMS and Blackberries!) are all a lovely, interesting, curious, multi-faceted and generous group of people, with whom I could discuss many topics, and of course FT. I’m proud to be part of this group, and thank Randy and OpenSkies for having had the opportunity for this nice toot to Paris.

A tout alors,

What an absolutely wonderful post. I hope that you will ask the Moderators if this can be cross-posted in the FT Paris Forum.

OMG ----- It was incredible, C'est Magnifique x 100 ^^

What an awesome day we had Vsevolod4 and what an AWESOME group!

The flight home was superb; was it really a flight? --- seemed more like an Ultra-Lounge with bottle service to me.

And, you've gotta love the British Airways Wedgewood China, Napkins and Champagne flutes in Biz Class.:cool: Now, I know what it's like to fly British Airways first, but with hip flight attendants. (I've got pictures to prove it all --- but, it's going to take me a bit to get them all online)

I'm am so going back to Pershing Hall

The Pershing Hall Restaurant is unique in Paris - Here the atmosphere is filled with whispers, songs and music. Black and white but also full of colour, like the photo exhibitions on the walls. Prepare to be surprised when night falls... Paris most innovative DJ's come to this secret place to mix. Nice restaurant either for Lunch or Dinner and Lounge bar of exception at the first floor... One of the most exclusive adress in Paris.
I only slept for around 4 hours the first night (and two hours the second night); and while up late catching up on my work -- I watch (and listen) to MTV France as background (of which, the sound was also sent in stereo to my hotel bathroom).

Since it was Fête de la Musique weekend on MTV France the mixes were pretty good. MTV kept playing a Kylie Minogue In My Arms and Kenna Say Goodbye to Love mix I can't get out of my head --- and has become the official OpenSkies FlyerTalk soundtrack for me.

RANDY and OpenSkies you provided our group with a once in a lifetime opportunity! :D

And, in the tradition of the FlyerTalk community --- a HUGH shout out to the OpenSkies FlyerTalkers (and, everyone else, of COURSE) -- to join me in Vegas this weekend, for an uncultured weekend of copious quantities of free NV Champagne and fun. (party and open bar in our suite on Thursday night --- June 26th --- party continues until Sunday morning.....)

The details :

June 26th to to June 29th
We are flying BOS-SLC-LAS, and arrive on DL 1115 from SLC at 11:14am

2. Why are you coming to town?
My Birthday Celebration ;);)
Birthday is June 26th --- and, I'm still under 40 (though, I wish I could say under 30 ;) )
+ the birthday celebration of our friend Meredith (from Concord, NH)
and + the birthday celebration (June 27th) (Lisa, from Phoenix, Arizona) -- who is just flying in for a Champagne toast at midnight between June 26 and June 27th!

3. Where are you staying, Baccarat_King?
Palazzo Concierge Level Bella Suite, COMP offer + free slot play + free food + free champagne birthday offer
Worried about a room in The Vegas? At the moment, we have some extra (COMP) rooms at Bally's and Hooters (yes, I'm sorry --- but, need to collect my free $$$$ --- I'm a comp whore, remember). This might involve sharing some rooms --- but, PM if you need me to try to work it out!

THANK YOU FlyerTalk and RANDY for continuing to exceed my expectations!

Wow!!!

I wanted to just thank all of the people that I met on the trip and to say what an amazing time I had. Met some great people, made some new friends.

I don't have a blog to point to and no pics that have not already been posted. There have been some very eloquent posts here which sum up everything that I need to say.

I just want to thank Randy and the Flyertalk team as well as the people that I spent time with ( and welcome to a new FT'er Mara916! )

The flights were great, especially the flight back since we had a gathering in the back of the Biz cabin ( since we were the only passengers there . ) Some of us from the Prem + cabin "snuck" up to hang out there. The crew was incredible and very accomodating.

I hope to run into you guys again in future events.

Great pics and report so far!^ I promise to start working on my report tomorrow (first I have the pleasure of having two exams tomorrow), and won't go to bed until it's all done. So that's no promise about when it'll be finished, but if it's not done by tomorrow you should feel sorry for me.;)

Sounds like there's a story here... Care to share Mara (or ckc123)? ;)

Canarsie Jun 24, 2008 1:02 am

My biggest regret on this trip is not spending enough time with everyone.

I intend to post a trip report and pictures, but with everyone else doing it, I am not sure I could add or do justice to what has already been posted.

I have already updated my list in the A List of FlyerTalk Members You Have Already Met in Person thread, although there were a few names about which I am unsure and could use some correcting.

Yes, mara916 and I share the same last name.

Trust me, there's always a story best left untold, and there's definitely one here (at least too "good" to be told on FT).:D

Well said Lucky.... it's human nature for there to be drama. The key is to rise above that and think fondly of the great weekend that was spent in a lovely city with new friends.

It was a blast soaking in all that culture ( or was that the minibar from the IC? )
