Hi Fred - where are you staying? Friday night is the only day I might have availability - I have a biz trip that week.

fredsxb Apr 23, 2008 6:29 am

I'm (unfortunately) staying at the Embassy Suite Convention Center. I'll probably be busy for dinner but likely to go have a drink afterwards...

gvdIAD Apr 23, 2008 6:55 am

I'm around the 3rd (after 12:00 noon) and 4th (all day). I can't do the 2nd (family in town for a visit), and won't know my schedule for the 5th through the 8th until late next week (I may have to go to PDX for work).

Peatisback Apr 23, 2008 12:02 pm

I'll be in town house shopping the 3rd-6th

GrizShel Apr 24, 2008 5:31 am

I'm free (mostly) on the 6th.

fredsxb Apr 24, 2008 5:46 am

How about a Flyertalkers' lunch on any date that would be most convenient to the most of you ?

(sounds great to me btw!!)

peteropny Apr 24, 2008 6:59 am

fred - attending APA? - my partner is too - we're at the Park Hyatt - 5/3-8

Benny8444 Apr 24, 2008 7:12 am

I will be here May 2 then get back to DC on May 5.

Please PM me if anyone wants to meet up for a mini DO downtown.

My office is at 13th and G NW

As you might notice from the various responses, picking the date is the hard part!

I'd suggest selecting a date and time that works best for you, then the locals and others whose visits to DC might overlap yours will have something to shoot for (also, the sooner you get the details pinned down, the more likely people will have the chance to attend).

There are lots of potential locations in all price ranges in and around the Penn Quarter, which is a very lively neighborhood just south of the Convention Center.

I notice you mentioned a possible lunch get together. A word of caution: weekday lunches may prove quite difficult as DC-area FTers' offices are all around the region, not just in DC.

Benny8444 Apr 24, 2008 1:16 pm

If the lunch is Downtown that is best as anyone can take the Metro to DC or around DC.
There are great restaurants near the Verizon Center (Clydes, Legal Sea Foods) or if anyone wants true local DC food we can go to Ben's Chili Bowl or to Maine Ave and have some crabs.

TO the OP:: Please choose a date that works for you and then we can tell you if we are free. The sooner the better as schedules can fill up.

How about lunch on Tuesday, 6th?

This seems to be the most convenient day for everyone!

I can probably make it for lunch in the Gallery Place/China Town area. My office is fairly close. The only problem is that my travel schedule has been extremely unpredictable for the last couple of months... so I may be out of town. Ben's chili bowl sounds good, too...

Benny8444 Apr 28, 2008 11:09 am

Tuesday May 6 works for me.

We can eat in the Gallery Place area or take the green line two 2 stops up to U street and go to Ben's Chilli Bowl.

I am fine with either one.

If we are meeting at Gallery Place, what kind of food does everyone like?

I'm fine with any option! I must say Ben's Chili Bowl sounds very tempting though (hard to find such a place where I live in France!)

Especially when the preferred destinations usually have some Michelin Stars. ;)

Unfortunately, we do not get in to town until the 8th and sadly will miss seeing fredsxb this time. Maybe this summer if we get out to the West Coast.

True story, when I first moved to DC a friend asked if I wanted to go get "a chili half-smoke" and I said "I don't do drugs." :)

FYI, a chili-half smoke is a sausage with chili sauce on the top. Tasy!

humanoid94 Apr 28, 2008 2:01 pm

Another option is "Shady Chinese Food," which is my favorite type of chinese food. I think our European friends will be surprised to know that for $3.50 then can have a sit down meal with an entree, rice, and tea... :)

Peatisback Apr 28, 2008 8:39 pm

I should be able to do lunch, so long as I'm not randomly closing on a new house or something. Just gotta be back to DCA in time for my 3:45 flight...

;)

That's too bad. I do hope we'll be able to see each other this summer though!

Benny8444 Apr 29, 2008 8:17 am

Whats the deal?

Do we have a location and day yet?

I think Ben's would be a good option if eveyone likes chili and hot dogs. They also have good milk shakes as well as some other non hot dog options.

If people do not want to go to Ben's Chili Bowl I have some other options in the Gallery Place area.

Ben

Tuesday May 6th at Ben's Chili Bowl sounds great to me!

How about everyone else?

Peatisback Apr 29, 2008 3:09 pm

I'm in for Ben's Chili Bowl on Tuesday 5/6- 1230pm? 1pm? What works for everyone?

uva185 Apr 29, 2008 3:20 pm

I will be in DC 5/4 - 5/11. Lunch on the 6th sounds good to me!!

fredsxb Apr 30, 2008 7:24 am

I'm in!

Tuesday 6th 12:30 PM Ben's Chili Bowl ! :)

uva185 May 2, 2008 4:55 pm

Ooops, I have 2 MRs to SEA on 5/6 & 5/7 (Double MQMs) :D

So I'm out, maybe next time.

fredsxb May 4, 2008 3:46 pm

So how many are we so far?

I'll probably come with a friend.

On a different note, any advice on where I could go have a drink after dinner tonight?

GrizShel May 5, 2008 6:11 pm

If I'm rested up enough by tomorrow and other tasks don't keep me away, I might go. (Yea I know, that's not very decisive, but it's the best I can do.)

Here is location info:
http://www.benschilibowl.com/directionstest.html

Metrorail is a good option to get there.

Peatisback May 5, 2008 6:47 pm

I am a horrible FTer- wasn't able to make it thought I thought I was going to. Sorry to fredsxb.

I hope in the future a get together happens!

GoingAway May 5, 2008 8:24 pm

I'm out of town but thanks for thinking of me ... enjoy lunch

fredsxb May 5, 2008 9:09 pm

Who can confirm their presence ?

peteropny May 5, 2008 10:11 pm

Haven't quite finalized my agenda for the day yet - but I'm a likely (tallish asian guy 44 - glasses)

fredsxb May 6, 2008 5:22 am

See you at 12:30pm then!

peteropny May 6, 2008 7:51 pm

Sorry I missed you guys :(
